English Premier League Manchester United vs Chelsea Match Preview ⚽ ⚽

Old rivalries just never come to an end. This is a saying which is oddly familiar to the EPL and for very good reasons too. There are intense rivalries and great matches which would ensure forever. One of them would be the encounter between Manchester United and Chelsea. Since both teams first emerged as title contenders for the throne in 2004, there have been 15 years of nonstop rivalry. This rivalry does not seem to be coming to an end anytime soon. It is good news then for the neutrals that the game has been billed for the opening match of the season. We can look forward to some wonderful football. It just never gets old.

Manchester United

Manchester United saw Lukaku leave on deadline day and all efforts to keep the deal for any of the forwards from Juventus die a sudden death. While this was true and the number of signings which they got this season was minimal, they would have confidence in the fact that they have managed to keep Pogba for the time being in the club. With Ole at the head of things this season, there are hopes that the Manchester United of old would once again come good this season. However, Chelsea would have other things in mind when they travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Chelsea

Old Trafford is surely not a great place to play Manchester United. Chelsea has had their fair of troubles there down the years and their new coach Frank Lampard would surely know all about it. Chelsea has also lost David Luiz to Arsenal at the death and their transfer ban meant that no replacement could come in to replace him even though Chelsea would have wanted to. So they get to face Manchester United with only one additional player which they signed during the transfer window in January. It promises to be an interesting season for Chelsea. Everything could go wrong or everything could very well.

Momentum is an important part of the game and coming from the preseason, both teams do not appear to be lacking in that department. For Manchester United, it has been a flawless campaign with only a draw against AC Milan being the stain and bring to an end a five consecutive winning streak. Wins against Inter Milan and Tottenham are all part of this run and they would be very happy with what they have been able to achieve. They would look to carry it into the new season.

As for Chelsea, four wins and a draw put them in almost the same level as their opponents and they would be gearing for another match here in Old Trafford. One thing that links both clubs is their inability to get the players which they would have wanted this summer to their respective clubs. That link to me would also be the main reason why none of them might turn out winners in this game. But anything can happen in the EPL after all.
