What can I say about Japanese rugby?? The truth is not a lot! Before writing this post, I had to do some swatting-up.

Japan's isolation as a rugby playing nation within Asia means, due to the lack of competition, progression within the sport has stuttered. Japan are a "Big fish" in a small pond, when it comes to Asian rugby Union, but are still classed as minnows on the international world stage.

I really suggest watching this little video by squidgerugby. He has a great rugby based YouTube channel. In this video he covers all things "Japan rugby"

Did you watch it?? Seriously, you need to give it a watch....

BEING THE HOSTS

As a relative minnow in the Rugby sphere, it surprised me to find out that Japan have played in every Rugby World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1987. This year's World Cup will be the first time that Japan has hosted the tournament.

The weather in Japan is going to be incredibly hot and incredibly humid. This could catch a few teams out, and lead to a few upsets, in the pool stages. I wrote in my last RWC blog WHY THIS WILL BE THE MOST OPEN RWC EVER and feel that the climate and conditions could play a large part in determining this year's winner.

Japan were announced as the 2019 hosts, all the way back in 2009. So they've had plenty of time to prepare. From speaking to players (yes I move in those circles) and spectators looking to head over there, the Japanese have, as they always do, excelled. Fans and players alike are expecting an incredibly warm welcome as well as temperatures.

GIANT KILLERS

With, now England coach, Eddie Jones in charge they caused a major upset back in 2015. With Eddie, who in my opinion is a great coach, I charge, he steered them to a major shock over rugby giants, South Africa. This was only their second ever match won in a Rugby World Cup.

During the 2015 RWC they went on to become the first team ever to win three pool matches in a single World Cup but still fail to advance to the knockout stage..... No mean feat, narrowly missing out on progressing out of the pool stages on points difference to Scotland.

500:1, 150:1? A team that can invest a lot of time and training together tend to be successful alright. I've observed Canadian Olympic hockey and bringing together the best professional players did not make it a successful team, it was often the teams that spent the time knowing their teammates a play off each others strengths. The coach is just brilliant.

So you watched the video then?

I'm not saying they will win... In fact I bet they won't, but they play excellent rugby to watch as a neutral. They may surprise a few teams this year.

"With speed and precision." I did watch it including the fellow rambling about his Rugby plans.

He's a good bloke, and he's WELSH. I'll be dropping a few more of his videos in to blogs, as I try and drum up more Steem for the prize pot.

Ooo are you going to do a write up on every team?!!!! 😃

That's the plan @dfinney. They will give you some info on your team and let you know if you stand a chance, that's the plan anyway
