He started his a career back in 1987 as a youth. Close started his senior career in 1998 with FC 08 Homburg and ended with Lazio in 2016, he played with 6 clubs making 529 appearances with 213 goals. At the national level he has 137 appearances with 71 goals for Germany before retirement.
The striker participated in four world cup winning one making him the first and only player to have appeared in four semi final consecutively at the World Cup, took the 2nd position once and third position twice. In total he won eight titles at the club level.
He won various individual awards and has many standing record: Fifa all time goal scorer with 16 goals, Germany national team goal scorer with 71 goals and many more.
