It was a cool Sunday evening at Andfield, both teams and two of the premier league’s giants, who had very good reasons to aim for the 3 points, a game that ended in a solid victory for the home side as they do everything possible to achieve their dreams this season.

Liverpool are not taking their title race lightly and are ensuring that they give everything and they keep pushing for the title. The table looks very good for Liverpool even though Man City still has a game to play, but as it stands at the moment, nothing is certain in the premier league which is key especially for Liverpool. The win was very crucial for them and as Man City won their fixture against Palace.

Chelsea also had reasons to fight for the 3 points, as they are in a very tight top 4 race and are under pressure of missing out of the top 4, even though they are still in the Europa League and can still make their way to champions league by winning the competition. This loss means that the blues chances of finishing in the top 4 this season are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

As usual, it was a great atmosphere at Anfield, the who fans were all excited about the biggest match of the weekend.
Liverpool lineup in their usual 4-3-3 formation, while Chelsea also setup up in their usual 4-3-3 formation as well. The game began and it was pretty obvious that Liverpool were playing with more desire and determination for the 3 points. Chelsea did a thing a two but Liverpool the better team in most part of the first half. The second half was still the same, but this time, Liverpool had to up their game which resulted to them scoring two goals early in the second half to ensure that their title dream remains alive. Chelsea had two glorious chances to pull a goal back but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Mane scored the first goal for Liverpool in the 51st minute, heading the ball from the far post to put the home team in front.

Salah scored a beauty of a goal 2 minutes later, releasing a thunderous strike to find the top left corner, the goalkeeper simply had no chance. A goal that gave them the cushion and at the end, sealed the victory for them.

Match Stats

According to the final stats of the game, Liverpool had the better stats overall, with a total of 15 shots, 7 on target and scoring two goals. Chelsea on the other hand, had a total of 6 shots, 3 on target. The reds had more of the ball with ball possession of 62%, 646 passes and an 86% pass accuracy. Whereas the blues had the other percentage of the ball possession, 400 passes played and an 80% pass accuracy. 5 fouls by Liverpool, no yellow and red card collected. Chelsea committed 9 fouls, 1 yellow card and no red card. Two offsides for both teams, 9 corner kicks for Liverpool and 2 for Chelsea.

It was a happy ending for Liverpool and their fans and a very disappointing outing for Chelsea who are in serious danger of finishing outside the top 4 yet again.
