The coach had words of praise for the midfielder despite their loss to City in the Community Shield

The Italian lost his first competitive game to coach Guardiola but was full of praise for the 24 years old midfielder. He has given his words of trust that the players would go on from being an inexperienced to a very disciplined player this season.

Barkley had a not so good first season at Chelsea where a combination of injuries and poor form saw him start just two games for the blues since he moved to the bridge in January.

However, he came out of the grounds and played the whole of the game against City.

Sarri said he liked the way the player controls the ball although said it would be difficult to field him in the same pitch with Fabregas and Jorginho.

Sarri was concerned though with the way Manchester City's midfield overtook his and admitted that more work needed to be done.

Chelsea opens their Premier league campaign with a game against Huddersfield on Saturday.
