Nothing is certain. I didn't pick any winner from Uruguay v France because i really don't fancy France and Uruguay are not that exceptional either, except on their days, but there is no denying that it promises to be an exciting match. Even though France dominated and Uruguay was subdued, from the start, i knew it would be a tough match.
Heading into this match, Uruguay were unbeaten in their last 7 matches while France won their last 8 matches.
France were the better team, even though Uruguay threathened early on.
Varane opened the scoring in the 40th minute, when he headed home in a beautiful fashion, from a Griezmann freekick, with no man marking him, he burst in and turned in the header, leaving the keeper helpless. It was a great header.
Uruguay had the same opportunity in the 44th minute but they couldn't make it count, as France goalkeeper was equal to the task.
France sealed their win in the 61st minute as Griezmann tried a powerful shot which Mursela: Uruguay goal keeper fumbled, and it tumbled into the back of the net. That was a high profile error that drew Uruguay away from a possible draw, when it stood at 1-0.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of France and the disappointments were evident on the faces of the Uruguayan national team, as France advanced into the semi-final.
The second match of the day, the highly anticipated clash between Brazil and Belgium. I tipped Belgium to win this, if you went by my last prediction and Belgium did.
Brazil had better chances but they couldn't punish Belgium. It was also embarrassing to see Neymar diving everywhere. Remember i said in the last post that he is too playful. I forgot to add cunny.
Brazil had a great chance in the 8th minute when Thiago Silva hit the post instead but in the 13th minute, Belgium went ahead with a Fernandinho own goal, which happened to be Belgium's 13th goal at the 2018 World Cup, and that is their highest goal tally ever in a single World Cup tournament.
Brazil did all they could to get something out of the game but nothing came. Belgium gave a killer blow when Kevin De Bruyne turned up and released an amazing strike that went to the goal keeper's right hand side, leaving him helpless. Lukaku's had work paid off as he released De Bruyne who struck the killer blow. The embarrassment written over Neymar couldn't be hidden. De Bruyne became a centurion as he became the 100th different player to score at the 2018 World Cup, excluding own goals.
Determined to get Brazil out of this misery, Neymar continued with his dive antics and the referee was smart enough to wave play on. There was an incident with Garbiel Jesus, but Kompany quickly pulled back even though there was a minimal touch. Brazilians, with their coach demanded a VAR but referee waved play on, to their utmost dismay.
Kevin De Bruyne could have added to his tally with an exquisite free kick which the goal keeper expertly turned over the goal post.
Substitute; Renato Augusto gave Brazil something to cheer for and a little bit of hope, in the 76th minute when he brilliantly turned over an lob long pass in the box with a great header, to make it 2-1. Brazil did all they could, but it came to nothing. The 5 times World Cup winners ran out of time and luck, as Belgium advanced into the next round, where they will meet France.
Brazil would rue the second yellow card Casemiro received in the last match, as they could have used his work rate and good vision to nullify Belgium's attack.
Belgium is now in the semi final for the second time, since 1986 when they lost to eventual winner; Argentina. They also have 9 different goal scorers at the 2018 World Cup, excluding own goals. Only Italy in 2006 and France in 1982 had more; 10 each, in a single tournament.
This seem to be Belgium's competition as i am also backing them, but with the surprises showing up everytime, you can never be sure, but they are my team after Nigeria went out, in this competition, and they have been unbeaten in 24 games, in all competition. They have won 19, and drawn 5.
