Shooting Star Night!

in #stars6 years ago

Last night was the highlight of the passing of the Perseiden cloud. If you were looking towards the North East side it was possible to see up to 40 shooting stars per minute. IF...you are in a dark enough area, that is...

If you are living in a city you will have to make some effort of going to a darker place

People always underestimate how big the power of light pollution is. If you are living in a city or anywhere near it most likely you are happy that you are able to see about 100 stars in total on a clear night.

That totally changes when you go to a more remote area like a hill, or the countryside.

Nachtvandenacht

As you can see here, in a lot of places in Europe you don’t stand a chance of seeing much, because there is always a city somewhere around you.

Now currently I live in the darker area of the map named the Alps. But on the other hand I live in a city, so that doesn’t help. But still I was giving it a try to catch some stars.

I went up to the roof of my 12-story building and sat myself down with my neighbors. Being more high than the streetlights, carlights and all of that really did help!

We saw TONS of shooting stars!

I think like one per minute was surely the minimum. And talking about life and seeing stars just made us all think how small we just are in this big, fat universe. You think your problems are first world issues? Think about how big the universe is, and all your problems will fade into relativeness.

Shooting stars make you humble!

Did you make your wish?

I love seeing shooting stars, seeing a meteor shower as you just have must’ve been amazing!
I know exactly what you mean about light pollution , I live about an hours drive from the nearest big city and the stars are noticeably clearer and I’ve many times been to extremely remote parts of Australia quite literally in the middle of nowhere and the sky is unbelievably so beautiful at night you can see so much so clearly, The difference is really something.

We saw two from Portugal but taking pictures was impossible but it was like another world was saying Hi! And I Made a wish 😉
