Steampunk zombies

This is my entry for the steampunk writing contest and it is about a ship full of zombies that are steampunk powered, a bit like the borg...

The ship full of zombies ploughed up onto the sand going full speed and didn’t stop until it hit the middle of London, and then 256 steampunk zombies marched off the ship steaming their way through the crowds come to watch, and began biting with their mechanical jaws, and although the police were called with guns, the zombies armour was too thick to penetrate with mere bullets and so were soon overcome.

By the end of the day half of London was converted while the other half were busily packing to escape but to no avail for within a week the whole of Britain was taken over and converted into factories to make steampunk suits for everyone that were now zombies.

The coalmines were re-opened to supply coal to the miniature boilers in the suits and a month later Britain was industrialised and exporting steampunk suits and became the biggest importer of steel in the world.

The result of all this industrialisation was that Britain became great again and topped the league of the richest countries.

The citizens of Britain were thriving so much that hordes of refugees made the perilous journey across the channel by any means possible to join in the great extravaganza of the zombie steampunk revolution.

Six months later and the whole world was a steampunk machine that sailed around the sun powered by steam.

By now almost everyone had become a steampunk zombie, but there were a few pockets of resistance hiding out here and there with some even going in disguise dressed up in steampunk suits.

The upshot of all this was that steampunk ruled for a thousand years.

Up in the skies huge dirigible airships flew through the air full of the elite who had escaped and who now spied down on it all and waited for their time to come to launch a counter attack and take back control of the world.

A careful plan that had been in the making for a very long time suddenly came to completion when a mini revolution among the elite’s children barricaded themselves in the control rooms of the huge airships and the countdown ended with nine fingers pushing nine buttons at the same time to send the big bombs down to the surface below.

With the surface destroyed and the zombies all dead the elite landed their airships and went down into their old bunkers that were still stocked high with provisions.

Some few survivors that had resisted the zombies were rounded up too and were put in the fridges to freeze them until needed so that one day, when they all awoke sometime in the future there would be slaves to work for them.

As they slept the steam powered breeding machine bred workers and stored them for using when the time came.

Among the captured and frozen survivors was Blue-Jane, See-through Mary, captain Crust and some others that in their frozen sleep dreamed about a story that ate itself to become a paradox monkey that was hard to figure out.

In an underground tunnel, half a dozen steampunk zombies were digging their way out after being trapped there by the bombs.

Will they escape and take over the world again?
