Nothing much really. Just thinking about one particular Trading Card Game (TCG). But then based on the title of this post, maybe some of you guys might knew it already...

This one is a bit different. This art here has nothing to do with that card game, but it is related to Yu-Gi-Oh! either way. Maybe some of you guys might be confused by this, but I'll explain...

Anyways, here's the art of our old friend Yami Yugi, one of the protagonist on the series.

I have to say, this really isn't my style of drawing at all! Plus it's my first time drawing this guy. Not a fan of it, but hey I wanna draw Yugi anyway...

Hmmm.... not a clean as the original source aka the manga or the anime, but not gonna emulate it either...

Yeah, he looks crazy all of the sudden! What gives you would say? And where is the card game???

Well, that's because this IS the Yami Yugi based on the original manga BEFORE the card game was introduced in the later chapter in the manga. Before that, our protagonist played more than just Duel Monsters (the Card Game). See, originally, Yu-Gi-Oh! has this shounen comedy horror element to it. And our protagonist here plays a variety of games. Basically when Yugi Mutou (the original half) is in a tough situation, Yami Yugi will pop up to the rescue, especially when there is some character who has ill intention on Yugi and his friends. Of course Yami Yugi will save the day by playing games with his opponent, and he will give a brutal punishment called the Penalty Game where he will give a punishment based of the wrongdoing of his opponent, basically giving poetic justice to the opponent (some if these punishment are BRUTAL dude...) It was not until the introduction of the aforementioned card game that that game became the staple of the series, though the game rules at the beginning are quite archaic compared to the current incarnation. and Yami Yugi STILL instills Penalty Games on the loser. Though he'll only give Penalty Game to those who really deserves it.

There is an anime based on the early chapters of the manga. This one is made by Toei Animation, famous for animating Dragon Ball and One Piece to name quite a few. This anime here concentrates on many variety of games rather than the card game though that game is there, just not as frequent. This one is mostly called 'season 0' from Yu-Gi-Oh! fans. And hey, I actually watched this before the one which concentrates on the card game when I was a kid and that crazy Penalty Game gave me a really interesting and intriguing reaction. Glad I watched this one first before the card game fiasco! Also this one is quite rare, as there is no releases for this anime outside of Japan, though you can find it a lot in the internet these days.

Of course, the one which concentrates on the card games came much later. And it's really popular. So from it's very humble beginnings till now, this series has spawned one of the most best selling Trading Card Games out there and it's still growing. Of course, being the granddaddy of anime TCG, this anime is also the most prevalent in pop culture when it comes to TCG.

There are many thing to list about Yu-Gi-Oh! But I guess you should get the details for yourself if you want to know more about this series.
