Kano is the name and capital of one of the historic city in North Western part of Nigeria. It is the commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria and the second largest city in Nigeria. The Kano metropolis initially covered 137 square kilometres (53 square miles), and comprised six local government areas (LGAs) — Kano Municipal, Fagge, Dala, Gwale, Tarauni and Nasarawa; However, it now covers two additional LGAs — Ungogo and Kumbotso. The total area of Metropolitan Kano is now 499 square kilometres (193 square miles). According to the 2016 PON census (unofficial) figures from Nigeria, Kano State had a population totaling 9,383,682. Officially, Kano State is the most populated city in nigeria. The official language of Kano State is Hausa language, but Fulani languages is commonly spoken, but Hausa people are the majority in the area.
Kano state education project is emulated by many, and its adult literacy programme won both national and international recognition.
Kano state is a showcase in agriculture self reliance and admirable resource management. Before the creation of Jigawa State, there were over 120 earth dams in the state, majority of which are located in Kano territory. Today, the dams which include Challawa Gorge and Tiga Dam, two of the ambitious irrigation projects in West Africa, ensure all year round farming. Kano is known today as the most irrigated state in the country with more than 3 million hectares of cultivable land.

In Sport Kano excels in many, it has a famous soccer team Kano Pillars ( theme Sai masu gida!) Who won a domestic league three times. Some of the notable that ever played for the team are : Ahmad Musa, Gambo Muhammad, Yaro yaro, Ali Janbiro, Rabiu Ali and others.
When it comes to communication technology, kano is exceptional with morethan ten am and fm radios, television stations and other.
Its people are predominantly Muslim, they largely follow sufism, it has a great scholars, professors, doctors, business person. It is the home of the reachest person in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote! And the most dominant emirate in North West, lead by current leader , Sarki Alhaji Sanusi 2. It has a notable Kwari, Wambai, Kurmi, Singer and Dawanau Markets.
