The disappointment that was/is crypto

I remember when I first got into crypto, there was a sort of excitement about it all. The new uncharted waters of the cryptosphere were calling to me. The stories of people making massive profits from tiny initial investments. Stoies of people setting up careers as traders, people setting up business's using groundbreaking blockchain technology.

It was all exciting, new and most importantly driving forward. So what happened?

Don't get me wrong, I've had fun while I've been involved. I've made some money, made lot of friends and learnt alot. But is there really a future here? I mean I hear all the time about some new thing coming to crypto, whether it's Steemit itself or something else. Problem is the hype is gone, the drive.

Crpytocurrency grew and was sucessful because of hype. Onboarding moe and more people who felt that same excitement as me. Some made money, others lost money but most importantly people were talking about it. Now I hear nothing but the occasional whisper on FB.

I see no news stories about it.
I hear no new success stories.
I hear no new groundbreaking ideas, just the same washed up and overtried systems.
I hear no excitement.

So what happened? Where did the hype go?

It probably has something to do with all the false promises that crypto and its proponents made.

You remember hearing "crypto is gunna change the world" yet nothing happened. "Cypto is going to take over as the new currency" yea, except no one is using it. See everyone sat around talking the talk but no one walked the walk. No one did anything of use while it would of had some impact. Theres no decent business around that actually accepts crypto as a form of payment. There is no legitimate use for it because we let the hype die before we took action.

Now we're all just sitting on a slowly emptying train waiting to see where its going to end up. I haven't given up on crypto but I sure as shit am not excited by it anymore. I don't really care if one of the many cryptos takes over as the most used currency and I think that's the same problem most people face. We got on the ride but the ride doesn't seem to be going anywhere anymore.

Maybe I'm wrong. I hope so. I hope the few thousand I put into crypto will one day make me rich but for now it just kind of sits there. Some of them pay small dividends but for the most part they're now nothing more than random numbers in random wallets. Spread, divided and useless but until I see a reason to keep putting in time effort or money to crypto they aren't going to do much more than that.
