Lets talk steemit #8 | Community and followers

Steemit is full of cereal followers, people who follow any account that they deem worth folowing, ie. powerful accounts with big voting power or a large number of followers.

Following so many people means it can be hard to ever pick out individual posts from accounts you like as your feed just becomes clogged with so many posts. Paring this with the use of voting bots I feel it makes the site a very stale place that is completely money driven rather than content driven.

I often talk about the growth and direction of steemit and I think the site being so money central could be detrimental to its longevity. Because the site is seen as a money making machine people really don't seem to worry about quality content as they realize a lot of their votes are bots or people just looking for payouts.

As content is not the most important part of the site it could drive away people that would want to partner with the site or its poster, for example companies won't want to advertise on steemit because they don't want to be represented by bad content and they will realize many people don't actually read content so it is not of great value from them to advertise on steemit.

Steemit seems to be in its own little bubble at the moment where everyone wants fast money but are hindering their potential through greed and laziness. I feel like this money central view is also weakening the community, I feel that steemit is becoming a place where we don't welcome new people in the same way and the community strength seems to lacking because of the lack of interaction.

Following tons of accounts and using voting bots gives less and less reason to read content so people don't communicated above the superficial level of vote for vote and similar money driven thoughts which doesn't bring any feelings of community and support that would attract constructive active posters.
