What would our world be like without blockchain technology?

While distributed systems have ruled most of our lives with the likes of facebook, twitter, and instagram the way we look at computing systems when it comes to the old esoteric industries. We are now again looking at what 50 years ago would be called sci-fi. With no disrespect to any industry or group of people the likes of bitcoin being a viable concept years ago are now a reality. And the thing is this new tech buzz or industry is way bigger than the dot com bubble, respectively. If you think about say for instance where finances and the financial industry is going soon SWIFT and any other form of cross border payment have recently been taken over by the next big giant ripple. Will ripple be as big as bitcoin? who knows but one thing is for sure there is now a realization the blockchain technology and cryptocurrency is a real issue for governments and government bodies. Will governments enter the cryptospace you damn sure they will and that brings more opportunity for the world to advance. Anyways if you like this topic just reply and keep on steeming.
