Looking for Ideas on How to Best Give Away STEEM/SBD

in #steem6 years ago

Ideas, ideas, who has some ideas? I'm looking for a good way to give away some STEEM/SBD as part of a potential new witness pay-it-forward initiative. I want to figure out how I could do it, and what some of the pros and cons are of various methods.

If you wanted to pay it forward, what is the best way you have in mind?

Is the best way just with a contest on some criteria? Are there better ways than with contests? Random with sweepstakes?

I think I would like to find a way to give it based on some criteria... but what criteria? Maybe a philosophy writing contest? Maybe psychology? Maybe another type of contest? Maybe no contest? I don't know! :P

I would really like to get some brainstorming going on as to how to do it. Whatever idea you have, just pop it into a comment please :)

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it. Peace.

I don't know about contest v. something else, but I humbly request that any criteria not be based on rep. I hit rep 50 in no time; it was super fast and super easy to get there, and I was a total noob. I just hit 58 (and it's obviously getting harder now), but I'm still a redfish. I'm not yet to 75% of the way to minnowhood, and I've been here for months engaging. Rep is easy if you comment, but there are a lot of contests and "minnow booster" programs that really only apply to red fish who have been here two weeks. People talk about minnows like they are the lowest tier, but lots of us committed Steemians are still riding the plankton bus. ;)

Rep has nothing to do with my criteria ;) Thanks for the comment. If you have any ideas, let me know ;)

GivIng money away effectively is harder than making it! U ask a really challenging question! I would say to give to people who share your passions and interests.. perhaps to those who write great posts but get little recogNition... or to those doing great philanthropy.. @zpedro is doing some great donating and I can surely reccomend you supporting him.

Also @pennsif is doing amazing work helping others and im sure any donations sent to him would be put to good use! Hope that helps, best of luck!

Thank for the kind mention Alex. The A Dollar A Day project began on 1 May, and so far we have donated nearly US$ 600 equiv, to 9 different projects around the world.

@krnel, I would love to see more donations coming in for the project if you would like to contribute to this.

I made a post a couple of days ago on my profile if you would like to see how the money has been raised and donated so far. Or just contact me directly via comment or Discord.

Thank you.

Good job on the project. I will keep that in mind. Thanks for msging me about it.

Glad ur here to give the detail! I Love what u do for steem and others!

Thank you.

I agree with Alex, the amazing sharing @pennsif is doing may in time change a lot of peoples life for the better, and I am all for that.

Thank you @deliberator. I am really happy that the project has got off to such a good start.

Nearly US$ 600 donated in a fortnight and 9 different projects helped. And I am on the lookout for more good projects to work with.

And thank you very much for your donations to the project, much appreciated.

More than welcome my friend, if it was not for me supporting Tom Duggan in Syria also, I would have given you a lot more. I committed to both projects, though Tom came first and I am his only sponsor in the coverage of the war via his independent journalism.

Tom Duggan is a good person to support. We need more 'Tom's' in many parts of the world to get the real stories.

Those are two good ideas (similar interests and philanthropy/charity). Thank you for the suggestions.

I think you can hold a contest for accounts with a reputation below 50.
example contest guess photos. or photography contest. I think it can help grow new accounts join in steemit.
if you choose by random. somewhat unfair. because it can not judge good or not.

Yeah random isn't too great. Acounts below a rep level is a good idea. I think I would stick to topics that I value more than others though ;) Thanks for the suggestions :)

I have an idea, how about doing a contest for unsung heroes? People like @freebornangel & @freebornsociety that delegate to new users sp without making a fuss about it or telling everyone. So a competition asking who has done this and maybe reimburse them via sbd or steem for their unacknowledged efforts to help new people, you would easily be able to check if people were telling the truth also, and the knock on effect would be more people willing to do it in the future, if they know they may get it back from someone like you. I know he does this as he still has 127 sp invested in me, and I know for fact he did it for @angryman and others.
New steemians would get a helping hand from day 1 then maybe.

A contest asking for submissions about people or groups that delegate to new users. Thanks for the suggestion. I understand how helping a broad range of users is good for the platform as some suggestions say, but I also want to support more the users of content that I want to see more of ;) A lot of new users and their content isn't what I value on Steem ;)

Okay my friend, it was just a thought, then realistically speaking, you already have your own answer.

Then why don't you just help those that want to promote truth, in any way you want.

You can consider people having less than 100 SP for this giveaway and conduct a writing contest. I can suggest a topic- Ask the participants to write something about the highest education they have and what they learned from from this formal education . According to the quality and efforts the user puts in, you can decide how to distribute the SBDs.

How would I get the people of sub-100 SP to be aware of my writing contest? I guess word would spread after a few times of running it? Thanks for the suggestions.

Best way to give away steemit is to identify the people with lowest influence (below 45 influence) and see who sticks to the steemit philosophy best - creates some original content daily (average number of posts per day) and also curates good comments on his/her page. You can assess the quality of content by perusing a few of articles. That is a fair way to distribute steem/sbd to a wider audience. May be avoid people using bots. I am not sure how youll access all people with low ranks but may be select people on random days by looking at new posts. I dont know if such data is readily available though in form of some stats released daily.

Or simply choose people randomly during random time slots and do a giveaway.

Not suggesting a post/article contest since it limits the audience in my opinion.

That's a good idea. Time consuming, but good idea ;) Thank you for the suggestion.

The best idea I can think of is to investigate a bit and give it to whoever you think it's doing the things you like in here, based on what you want it to be.

Yeah, that sounds good actually. If I want to see more philosophy posts, or want to see certain types of behavior rewarded, then I should reward it. I have to think about that more. Thanks for the suggestions. What do you like here, and what do you want it to be? How would you do what you suggested?

You're welcome, I am trying to understand what it's right now and what could be done in or with it while making some brain juice and time investing, I like philosophy, nature, art, independent journalism, investigation and so on, I would like it to be some sort of self-reliant oasis; about how to do it I'll have no idea, I don't know very well how the whole system works, as I told you I'm just learning and I don't really have much technology experience, that could be another behavior to reward as I think a lot of the frustration here is due to lack of knowledge, info or excessive noise. Thanks for your work.

This is just a suggestion, but I've always liked contests that benefit the community in some way.

For example, I've recently hosted a contest where the goal was to design Public Domain images of STEEM. So everybody could use them freely in their posts. It's a win-win for both the contestants, as well as the entire community.

I don't know how you could apply this to other sorts of contests, but I'm sure there are many other options. I'm not a big fan of leaving everything up to chance and just hosting a lottery.

I agree, random, chance or lottery is not using evaluation of consciousness and can add useless 0-long-term value additions to the platform that only extract without adding anything of value itself. Posts that people an be interested in long into the future are long-term value. A contest should generate long-term value to be of benefit to the platform in the long-term by potentially continuing to add value for people who find that content.

That contest is interesting. I don't know how to apply that beyond your scope. Any ideas?

Witness paying forward is great for the health of this platform.

I do like other platforms with dpos where the witnesses pay the users for their votes. This creates a competition between witnesses and dynamically sets the price for their work.

I think what is reasonably close and fun is taking all accounts that have voted for you as a witness and randomly selecting a few and then pay them directly.

That's an interesting idea. Thanks for suggesting it. Since they support me, I pay-it-forward, or it's like kick-back payback more so I think in that case rather than pay-it-forward :P Goes in a reciprocal feedback, not a forward direction to someone else;)
