30 days of Steemit - 4 Important Lessons

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Whew! What a crazy month and wild ride it has been for LiveRehab. We’ve been posting now for exactly 30 days which blows my mind! So, in the last 30 days what have I learnt?

Lesson 1 - Consistency isn’t key

There is very little correlation to the consistent posting, commenting or messaging on Steemit. I made a commitment to post unique, interesting and relevant content for 30 days. The process has varied wildly. Some days we’ve had a ton of interest in what we’ve written. But, for the most part, just putting in consistent hard work won’t cut it long term. See lesson 3 for more on this.

Lesson 2 - People can be awesome

I joined the PAL forum and made some amazing new acquaintances/friends/Steemit folks there. Everyone is super cool and helpful.

I also wrote a post in the past 30 days about traveling to the British Library and documenting my experience there. For some random reason a whale saw it and upvoted it - it made $64 or something! So, since I was going to a museum the next week, I decided to try and replicate it. Guess what? See lesson 1. It didn’t have the same impact. Sigh.

Lesson 3 - Unless it’s about crypto or amazing travel destinations you had better get lucky. And this could be a problem for the community.

For the most part the content on Steemit is either crypto, steemit or photo essays. The good stuff is really, really good. But the trash is trash and there is a shit ton of it. Mr general public’s content is rarely seen because of the flood of spam and shit that gets posted every second.

It still all feels very hyper localised to people who enjoy the world of crypto and so to me it seems as though this will ultimately limit the broader scope/appeal of the platform.

Lesson 4 - Bots. Bots. Bots.

Bots can be your friend. They can help show interest that can psychologically cause other people to get interested in your post. Bots can also be bad. And the bad ones are annoying and jamming up the experience for good content creators.

So, what’s next? I’m going to commit to continuing building the recovery, addiction and health areas of Steemit by posting regular, original content. I think the community will, someday, come to rely on the advice that’s available there. I hope that in the long term, it pays off.

To your recovery,

Nick
