Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (17 March 1920 - 15 August 1975) is the first President of Bangladesh and one of the most influential political personalities of the Indian subcontinent, who led the struggle for establishing Bangladesh from the British India to the partition of India and later from East Pakistan to protect the rights of the Bengalis. As the modern architect of ancient Bengali civilization, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is said to be the father of the nation's father or nation.
He is the President of the Awami League founded by Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, the first President of Bangladesh and later the Prime Minister of this country. He is more known to the public as Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Sahib and his title Bangabandhu. Her daughter Sheikh Hasina is the current president of Bangladesh Awami League and the present Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

India Division In 1947, Sheikh Mujib was the youngest student leader in the early stage of politics in East Pakistan. Later, he became the president of Awami League founded by Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. As a supporter of socialism, he started a movement against all kinds of discrimination against the people of East Pakistan.In order to establish the rights of the people, he proposed a six-point self-government plan that was considered as a separatist plan in West Pakistan.

Chief of the six-point claim was an extended provincial autonomy, for which he became one of the most opposing opponents of Ayub Khan's military rule. In 1968, his trial began with allegations of conspiracy and conspiracy with the Indian government and later he was proved innocent. In the 1970's election, Awami League led by him won a huge victory. Yet he was not given the opportunity to form the government.

After the talks between Sheikh Mujib and Pakistani President Yahya Khan and West Pakistani politician Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the Pakistan army conducted massacre in Dhaka city on March 25, 1971, on the formation of a new government in Pakistan. He was arrested on the same night and was later taken to West Pakistan. Rahimuddin Khan sentenced him to death in a military court, but it did not work.

After the 9-month bloody liberation war, on December 16, 1971, the independent state of Bangladesh was established by surrendering the Pakistan army to the Bangladesh-India Joint Forces. On January 10, 1972, Sheikh Mujib was released from prison in Pakistan and returned to his homeland and began to serve as the first President of Bangladesh.
Later he became the Prime Minister. In spite of efforts to create a Constitution based on socialism and secularism and in spite of attempts to run the state, he spent hard times facing severe poverty, unemployment, universal anarchy, as well as extensive corruption. In 1975, he banned all party politics, and declared himself the president for a lifetime, to curb rising political unrest. Seven months later, on August 15, 1975, he was killed by a group of military officers in his family.
