Hello there,
As some of you may have noticed, for a few days rewards of our posts are paid in STEEM in addition to SBD and SP. I wouldn't be exaggerating when I said that almost no one knows why that happens and how to calculate the STEEM portion.

I will not dwell on economic analysis, inflation rates an so on, I need to take a very practical line to explain what's happening.

Separator.jpg

SBD PRINT RATE

The SBD Print Rate is nothing more than the rate with which SBD are printed and in our case this happens when we receive rewards for a post or a comment.

Now it all depends on SBD Print Rate. With particular reference to STEEM Whitepaper, it states that when the STEEM/SBD debt ratio is greater than 2% corrective measures are taken to bring percentage point below 2% in order to avoid unreasonable economic consequences.

In greater detail, when the STEEM/SBD debt ratio is between 2% and 5% the liquid portion of the payout linearly changes from 0% STEEM and 100% SBD to 100% STEEM and 0% SBD. When the STEEM/SBD debt ratio is greater than 5%: the liquid portion of the payout chenges to 100% STEEM, 0% SBD.

How to calculate the STEEM/SBD debt ratio?

SBD Market Cap / STEEM Market Cap * 100

How to find market-capitalization data?

https://steemd.com/

steemd.jpg

There it is, then:

14,787,067 / $649,822,057 * 100 = 2.28%

As we can see, we can easily calculate the STEEM/SBD debt ratio with this formula and as we saw earlier, as the range is between 2% and 5%, the liquid portion of the payout linearly changes from 0% STEEM and 100% SBD to 100% STEEM and 0% SBD.

Separator.jpg

How can we calculate this amount of STEEM?

Now we have to consider the SBD PRINT RATE

As we all know, if an author chooses 50/50 rewards on their post, they get 50% of the post as SP, and the other 50% as SBD after Curation.
So in this case, SP shall not be affected while the liquid payout gets paid in percentage of SBD Print Rate.

In the above example image, we saw that SBD Print Rate was 91% that means we get 50% * 91% = 45.5% in SBD and by subtraction 4.5% in STEEM.

Let us take a practical example assuming that STEEM worth $2.35:

Total Reward = 100 STU - 25 STU (assuming 25% curation) = 75 STU (Author reward).
75 * 50% / $2.35 = 15.96 SP
75 * 45.5% = 34.12 SBD
75 * 4.5% = 3.38 STEEM

How To Calculate the l'SBD PRINT RATE?

the formula reads as follows:

(5% - Percent SBD) / 3% = SBD PRINT RATE

In the above example image, we saw that STEEM/SBD debt ratio is:

14,787,067 / $649,822,057 * 100 = 2.28%

which falls within the 2% and 5%, so the liquid portion of the payout linearly changes from 0% STEEM and 100% SBD to 100% STEEM and 0% SBD. So To Calculate the l'SBD PRINT RATE we will use the formula:

(5%-2.28%) / 3% = 90.67%

The content of this post is deliberately condensed and I tried to explain the mechanism behind steemit reward. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Dove possiamo ricavare questi valori?

https://steemd.com/

steemd.jpg

Quindi:

14,787,067 / $649,822,057 * 100 = 2.28%

Reward = 100 STU - curation 25 STU (25%) = All'autore vanno 75 STU.
75 * 50% / $2.35 = 15.96 SP
75 * 45.5% = 34.12 SBD
75 * 4.5% = 3.38 STEEM

Separator.jpg

Se volessimo calcolare l'SBD PRINT RATE?

La formula è la seguente:

(5% - Percentuale SBD) / 3% = SBD PRINT RATE

Sort:

This is really helpful. By seeing the steemit FAQ I could find it very complicated to understand. Thanks for making the matter users friendly way.

You're welcome mate! It actually took quite a bit of time to sort all this out.

Apologies, but I must serve correction:

Let us take a practical example assuming that STEEM worth $2.35:
Reward = 100 STU - curation 25 STU (25%) = All'autore vanno 75 STU.
75 * 50% / $2.35 = 15.96 SP
75 * 45.5% = 34.12 SBD
75 * 4.5% = 3.38 STEEM

is actually:

75 * 4.5% / $2.35 = 1.436 STEEM

That is seriously subjected to market conditions. I am assuming that the change of print rate depending the percentage of debt ratio is to keep in the check the market supply and thus the over all price.

Sometimes we forget the underlying complications and the measurements devs put in the back-end to keep the engine going. Thanks for sharing this man!

You're welcome ;-)

Nice post, well written and thanks for the info. 👍

Thank you, @john-gpr. You're welcome.

It is quite informative but I could not follow through yet. I will work on your post to keep myself up to date for state of art of Steemit! Thank you for your efforts.

I tried to explain it the easiest possible way.

I know. Problem is on my side as I need to be more knowledgeable. 😉

Veramente un articolo molto interessante. Da diverso mi chiedevo come mai ciò accadesse.

Thanks for the break down, I have been trying to figure out how it works and it's been quite difficult to get a handle on it!

You're welcome mate!

I have being wondering why the steem was included but I think really explained it to me. The truth of the matter is that most people do not read White papers including me, we just follow a pattern that works as long as it is giving the needed rewards

Thank you @miti for sharing.

Tt is true, but we have to try to understand.

You're welcome ;-)
