Oh Lord forgive me for writing about Steem....How to get an income AND hodlsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

As I have written previously, the fall in the price of Steem has inversely seen a rise in the number of posts about Steem. I have moaned and whined about this as only a belligerent old whinger can but yet here I am joining the fray.

The reason for this is because, despite my moaning, I do read and take on board what people opine, and recently, I've been giving things a lot of thought.

To simplify things greatly, there are basically two camps here on Steem. Firstly, those with a decent standard of living for whom Crypto prices aren't really going to make a difference to that standard and secondly, and for the vast majority, those for whom Steem could provide them with an extra income and make a huge difference to their quality of life.

Now I point out these two groups because it's important to understand the perspective from which people write and post and this is something I try to point out when the folks from the first group constantly post about hodling and investing in more Steem. Sorry @meno and @whatsup I know you cop the brunt of this and my manner is often somewhat brusque but trying to get the message across that we should all be addressing issues and understanding circumstances from a global perspective is really important to me.

So, how can someone use Steem to provide an increasing income and hodl / increase their SP at the same time thus creating a win-win situation ?

The answer to this is by powering down, working hard and using Steem like Social Media. Yes, I said powering down.

Let me explain.

The first thing to understand is how powering down works. Basically, when you power down, you get 1/13th of your SP holding each week. So for example, if you have 135SP, you'd power down and need to leave 5SP so you still have some bandwidth left and you'd then receive 130/13=10 Steem a week. That's an income, the numbers don't matter.

With me so far?

OK, so if you're removing 10SP a week from your SP pot you need to replace it with more than 10SP, more than the amount you're taking out, even if its just a tiny bit more, and this is where it gets tricky!

Obviously, you need to work hard and keep posting, 2 posts a day. The key to all things in life, and Steem is no different, is CONSISTENCY .

Firstly, straight after your first power down, cancel the power down and then start it again. If you've done this right and earned more SP than you've taken out, the following week you will get a smidgeon more than this week, and of course, the 13-week cycle will have started again, thus giving you perpetuity.

Now from your received SP, I'd suggest you use about 30% to promote the next two posts you write directly after your power down day being careful and using Steem Bot Tracker to try and ensure you make a profit on your promotion.

But how to make my posts more visible and earn more?

USE THE DAPPS, Luke and READ, UNDERSTAND AND MAKE GOOD COMMENTS on other peoples posts i.e. manually curate.
The DApps often provide good upvotes to serious users who are not just phishing for them, so if you use the great DApps we have available, there is a good chance of a nice bonus upvote from the DApp itself.

Great DApps for this are @musing, @letseat (download the app), @steepshot, @zappl, @dlive, @dtube, @steemhunt
Use the different Steem front-ends for your posting as some of them give small upvotes in return for their use such as @busy, @esteem and @partiko

And don't forget, using all these DApps, you can replace your whole existing social media! So use Steem as your first choice. Thanks to these developers, we have every tool we need here.

Any other ways of increasing my weekly SP income ?

Yes! Firstly, STAY IN POWER UP MODE ON ALL YOUR POSTS. This way, you're not tempted to nibble bits of income out before power down day and right now, there is very little point in holding SBD at all. Get everything into SP and this constantly increases your voting power and means you'll earn more passive income....

Selling votes. That's right, sell votes to about 50% of your voting to strength to either/both @minnowbooster and @smartsteem and this will give you a little income stream which along with the income from your comment curation of which you do need to spend some time on, will give you a little extra to use for self-promotion. Delegating actually provides a slightly better return but you can't do this as you're in power-down mode.

All this is, is a version of 'save more than you spend' but with hard work, application and using all the tools available to you, you CAN get an income and build your holding. If you can afford to invest even a little bit of cold hard cash into SP, even better but not necessary.

RECAP

  1. Power down. When you Receive your first power down amount, instantly cancel the power down and restart it again.

  2. Power up all your posts.

  3. Use the DApps and use Steem as your first choice social media, you can make up to 10 posts a day if they're interesting.

  4. Use 30% of your power down Steem to self-promote the very next 2 posts after your power down.

  5. Spend as much time as you can reading, engaging and commenting sincerely on other peoples posts and use the income from this to further your self-promotion.

  6. Finally. Don't forget to measure your success, keep a track of what you're earning and the payout dates using @dragosroua 's brilliant steemsupply , after all...

that which can be measured can be managed

Any questions ? Please leave them in the comments and good luck. I want to see Steem empowering everyone. No matter where they're from or whatever their circumstances.

Thanks for dropping by. Your Upvotes and Resteems are gratefully received but your comments and engagement are truly appreciated. Let's keep up the debate. Thank you

Some great suggestions, I can't emphasise enough about getting to know people and making connections.

Totally. You've got to engage and join in. It's harder now there are so many people but in the past, when you all first started I'd suggest that's exactly how most of the older members got to where they are today, and continue to do so.

I knew there was a reason I've always liked you, even though you sometimes give me a hard time! :)

lol...It must get boring for you being loved and agreed with all the time.I just aim to bring you some variety. That's all ;-)

I just powered down. Correct, we need to post twice a day and be consistent but I am busy these days so sometimes I cn even post once a day. Hey how are u?

WOW look at you Miss reputation 60 !! we done :-)

Your post had been curated by the @buildawhale team and mentioned here:

Wow, that's so encouraging and thank-you very much :-)

Great post as always! You've inspired me to be less of a lazy bastard :P!

you've joined the ranks!! hahahah good job brother...

Lol..if you can't beat 'em......

Some good new ideas to me. I've been doing some of them but I haven't tried some of the DApps you mentioned. I will have to think about your power down, cancel and re-invest model. I believe you say that will result in a gain, I just would like to understand the math behind it. Thank you.
