Get paid to invest mentality

Yesterday I read a brilliant long post by @nonameslefttouse which I recommend every one of my followers to read (thanks to @abh12345 who resteemed it):

https://www.palnet.io/newsteem/@nonameslefttouse/the-business-of-blogging-and-how-to-take-over-the-world

It's about our blogs being a business and doing the best things for the business long term.

I especially liked the comparison of our readers, blog and the platform to customers, shop and the mall in which we operate.

If the mall doesn't survive, all those businesses which operate there also don't survive.

Cashing out all our rewards is bad for our blog business long term because instead of investing into the future of our business, we cash out whatever we earned in those 7 days. @nonameslefttouse compared this with selling something in the shop for 20 dollars and at the end of the day spending these 20 dollars on beer.

Obviously it doesn't matter if it's a beer, cheese, bread, utility bill, or an iphone. What matters is that we no longer have those 20 dollars.

The good rule for cashing out is to cash out only a small portion of our earned or invested stake and only then when the time is right, when we are not hurting the platform itself - when Steem price has gone 10x or 20x or 50x or 100x or whatever your benchmark is.

If invested into the platform in the form of Steem Power or PAL Power or LEO Power or whatever additional tokens we are earning on Steem those 20 dollars after one year will create at least another 4 dollars because of reward system works. Actually much much more because of rewards multiple tokens. No legal bank can give us such return on investment.

With the new HF21 people who upvote content (the curators) will start to get 50 percent worth of their upvotes which is a big incentive to curate quality original content. Also we will get 2.5 downvotes per day which wouldn't eat up our voting power. This we should use wisely to flag shitposts, scam, plagiarism and other sorts of reward pool rape that is going on currently on Steem.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway from @nonameslefttouse to me was the change we need in talking about Steem with outsiders (marketing).

Instead of promoting "get paid to post" mentality which doesn't incorportate the idea of doing what's good for Steem longterm, we should promote "get paid to invest" mentality which obviously includes "get paid to post" but gives so much more benefits to the platform itself, to our blogs, to us who write those blogs and to our readers.

This is the same mentality which benefits the mall, the shop, the shopkeeper and the customers.

It really is an excellent post that explains things in terms we can all relate to.

get paid to invest

in the quality of others

It's simple really, but has been overlooked for too long.

Thanks for resteeming the original @nonamesleftthehouse post!

Yeah, that’s the best post I’ve read about STEEM in a long while. It’s a good analogy.

Thanks a lot! I highly recommend this post by @nonamesleftthehouse...

I can't agree more.
Yet keep buyin' those tokens.

The biggest investment we make is with our time. Hopefully these HF21 changes make bots less prevelent. I'd like to know humans are reading my posts.

I like how you talk about cashing out. Sometimes you have to cash out to avoid holding bags as well. Minizing your losses is as important as maximizing your gains.

The right time to cash out a little in any business is when it's going smoothly.

Thanks for the idea "get paid to invest". It really give me more ideas to persuade more friends to get on board the Steem Big Family.

I hope so too...

Awesome! it happens to me all the time! lol!😎😂👍

A number of these new communities including LEO seems like smart investments for me. Whenever I look at an investment I look for a few things.

  1. It betters people
  2. It has a potential to the upside with minimal downside

With the launch of LEO and other tokens for me all I see is upside at the moment.

As long as the utility of these platforms doesn't diminish, I think we'll be ok.

Great way to put things into to perspective @organduo

That's the mindset. If you want to grow your business, you don't want to cash out to buy fancy stuff. You will invest more in business to win in the long run.

Very healthy approach...
