Invest money or time

As a response to my post about Steem for Non-Profits yesterday @adenijiadeshina wrote:

There have been several organizations that are promoting themselves now. Like you said, with the current price, it takes a few bucks of dollars to become dolphin but may still be huge for a single person like myself.

And I replied:

One can invest money or one can invest time whichever one has more...

If you think about it, it's true, isn't it? Steem is created with an ingenious idea in mind. People who have money to invest, they can do so in order advance further on the platform and those who have more time than money available can invest time instead of money.

Sure, after HF20, Resource Credits cost some Steem to start with but those can be easily delegated by the communities who do the onboarding or individuals who create accounts for newbies.

After a few months a person will have gathered enough Steem that they can fly on their own without SP delegation.

Many complain about how Steem used to be free but now RC cost money to start Steemian journey. As counter-intuitive as it sounds, I think it's a good thing because when you invest a little bit of your own hard-earned money, then you tend to be more serious about your investment.

And even those who don't invest money but get it as SP delegation will soon discover that there is a significant learning curve on the platform. This is also a time investment. To read various posts and guides how Steem works requires a certain curious mindset and desire to learn. People who do this right from the start have made a choice of not flying blind in the dark but actually open their eyes to see what's going on and what does it take to succeed here.

And in order to succeed on Steem the basic idea I think is that you have to give more to others than you get. What does it mean exactly?

Everyone on Steem has a goal to succeed, they want to grow their network, their influence and their SP. We can give them that. The person who figures out a way to help others grow faster, will also grow their own account faster.

This is done primarily by developing a community around yourself and engaging in communities and/or contests that others have created.

In the first instance, you create posts that resonate with some people, they come and read your ideas and upvote them. Some of them will want to hear more from you in the future and their will become your followers. The most passionate people will start commenting on your posts. And here you have to engage with their thoughtful comments.

Answer them. Ask further questions through your comments and so the conversation will continue. Of course there are many spammers here who sort of understand the value of commenting but not quite. They would leave a generic comment, such as, "Nice post". If you click through their profile and see their other comments, you will see that they do that multiple times per hour with the same comment (although the number of people who do that is much lower after HF20 because of RC cost).

This never works, right? I don't see why they just couldn't read a few posts per day and comment with their own original idea which a particular post has inspired. It's probably because they have come here with the false idea that you can get rich quick on Steem (thanks to certain people who have been promoting Steem with this message).

So back to your posts then. You get one or two comments, you reply. You click through to the person's account to see more of what they post. Read a few of their recent posts. If you like them, give them some upvotes and leave some thoughtful comments.

You see, where this leads? You both help each other grow organically, through genuine engagement. It's not like follow for follow strategy or "I gave you my upvote now you please upvote me". No, not at all. You upvote and comment and even resteem because you found this post valuable. That's it. This way your own community grows and you help others grow their own community.

For people who struggle finding valuable content, there are interesting curation initiatives here. I for example, like what @qurator and @curie do. Not only they showcase various people's work but with @qurator you get 5 days of interesting posts to read, upvote and comment. These posts are hand-picked with their quality curators and you can be sure you will always learn something new here. In fact, your own posts can be featured on their curation compilations too. Go to their profile to read about their rules and benefits for delegating SP to them and participating in their contests.

@curie promotes exceptional content. They upvote 10+ posts per day and people can even participate in their commenting contest and win some Steem. I have won a couple of times in the past and every time I read a post curated by curie, I also discovered something new.

People who create such valuable content generally are very glad to receive your comments and upvotes so they also tend to reply to you. And so the conversation continues and your network, influence and SP continues to grow alongside with other people that you support.

Of course, people who have money to invest will grow faster but even they should try to engage and be valuable to the community.

That's the main idea of being successful on Steem:

The person, you helps others the most, wins.

Do you agree or disagree with strategy? Please let me know your ideas in the comments.

(Keep in mind this is not a financial advice, you have to do your own due diligence and never invest more than you can afford to lose).

Sort:

You really believe people who invested money of their own are more serious about it? Those who have money, or even a lot of money do not care if it get lost. Money means nothing to them. It is also not said that everyone has time to spend day and night here, writing, commenting. If I read what is generally written it is all the same. If Steemit.com wants to be or is meant to be for the upperclass/high society they should say so, but then they should also kick out all those people not able to write in English, who's grammar sucks and be perfect themselve.

By now the whole system is not. Let them be clear about what they want and set rules and stick to it. Update their FAQ, explain how or what. It now feels to me the rules are made by the ones with money and the ones without are only great to advertise and they will be kicked out sooner or later.
There is nothing wrong with steemit being a copy of the society in real world, where everybody has the right to join (especially when so Manny people say it is better here as at Facebook). Most role are o writers and do not like to be one either.

To me it is still unclear which way steemit wants to go. I agree you do need to read and comment on what other people write, but how can you do so if you have not enough steem power when you start and nobody tells you why? You will not find this concept anywhere else. Believe me WordPress, blogspot, Facebook, Twitter, they are all working fine, worldwide and people are very motivated without paying for it.

Let us say I have money to invest in my account. Instead of buying food for the 30 euro I have to spend next month, me and my kids will eat nothing. We will drink hot water and tea for a month. I will use the 30 euro for my account to be a?
It beats me, No can find back this info ... I also do not understand which steps to take.
Btw: I assume you need a credit card or so? Are you aware of the fact many people do not have one? In my country you will only get 1 if you have a certain income left over after your monthly payments/bills and debts are payed?

Hi wakeupkitty you can buy steem at bitcoinmeester with ideal I don't know if PayPal is also an option. You have Bitcoin ATMs where you can put cash into the machine and turn it into Bitcoin some I think even in steem. I plan to buy that system for steem events. You can have a prepaid creditcard like pay2d.nl you can send money there. But if you use bitcoinmeester you can easily send euro and convert it there. The rate is expensive but after 100 euro you get vip status and then the rate is much cheaper read up on it maybe it is something. The steem blockchain is so much more then only steemit those steemmonsters dtube dsound development branch I'm happy to be here and don't want to be rich quick because mostly there is no quick way. I'm here for the community and I can build something out of nothing (look at the Dutch community) my feeling with steem is like the world is yours you only have to take it. And if you need more food we will make your life easier or try to help you in any way we can is my mind set. That is what the community is also about sharing information tips helping one another.

Excellent points... Steem is what we make of it.

I understand your concerns. Steem is very young and we will improve it. The entire crypto movement works for people who are unbanked. Especially Steem where one can earn. If a beginner doesn't have enough RC, DApps can delegate some SP until they can fly on their own.

Yes, it is confusing and the learning curse is steep but in the future it will become easier to understand the system. That's one of the reasons I'm also writing about it so that my followers can educate themselves and not only draw wonderful comics.

Also Steem is not Steemit. There are many DApps to post from. Steemit Inc is a centralized company but blockchain is decentralized so the future is up to us.

Another informative article :)

Thank you for your prize donation this week. It is very much appreciated!

My pleasure to write something educational for our community.

yeah either way. sure the learning curve is steep and the account creation is a pain. lucky there's dapps like share2steem which give free steem acc and ease the transition process.

PS :
If you’re posting content on instagram, give share2steem a look. It’s a new dapp that EASILY autopost your instagram post to steemit. Get daily upvotes from s2s and other users who activate unique double curations.

You are right about this. But some people may fustrating at first. Actually the introduction of rc have really helped both in reducing spamming messages and many more. I guess if investing in time, it will takes months to stand on your own. But well, as for me that i have no money, i have no option than to invest in time by making valuable comments on people post and to create an interaction also. I will hope this pay me at the end. Thanks for replying to my comments. This post was also great

My pleasure to reply to thoughtful comments... And yes, you can grow your account by dilligent commenting.

Time and money both are great assets of ones. No matter, which one you are investing. Bloggers invest the time and investors invest the money.

Posted using Partiko Android
