Who Wrote This? Can't We Do Better? -- Let's Get Creative.

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

This morning for reasons otherwise unknown I wandered onto the CoinMarketCap website. While there I explored the listing for Steem. Wandering down to the bottom of the listing I found this description:

Steem bills itself as 'a social blockchain that grows communities and makes revenue streams possible for users by rewarding them for sharing content'. It also powers real applications via social apps like Steemit.

Steem started out as the cryptocurrency on the Steemit platform that rewards users for community building through the upvoting and the posting of meaningful content. Founded in 2016 by Ned Scott and BitShares creator Dan Larimer, the Steemit platform, built atop the Steem blockchain, is a social media network that seeks to be a source of community-driven curated content such as news, Q&A and job boards. The more value a particular piece of content is able to deliver across a greater number of people, the greater the reward received by the creator. Steemit users can cast votes to create a hierarchy of content. The higher the upvote count received on a content piece, the more Steem is earned by its publisher. Steemit’s meritocratic system also enables users that hold more currency to cast more meaningful, greater influence votes.

Our ranking on the site is pointed to frequently as a marker on how well Steem is doing in the crypto markets. Those rankings carry weight with investors so why is this description anything but inviting?

Who writes it?

Why is it so totally focused on Steemit and content creation when Steem is that and so much more?

Does updated information need to be submitted to them to get this changed or does it need to be rewritten and submitted?

Let’s Rewrite This

Okay, I have no idea if we can get this changed but let’s get our imaginations going here. Let’s take a stab at presenting the Steem we’d like to have the world (well, their readers) see.

Here’s my attempt at it:

Steem is the cryptocurrency powered by the Steem blockchain. It’s rewarded to those who use the social apps built on the chain. It started out as Steemit.com rewarding steem to content creators upvoted by curators who also earned a share of rewards. Holding the currency in Steem Power enables greater influence and rewards on the meritocratic system. An ecosystem of d’apps has developed providing users a wide range of activity on the platform including: games, writing, music & audio content, video content, crowdfunding, specialized frontends for content, ecommerce, token creation, exchanges, businesses and more.

Okay, there’s mine. What’s your take?

@steem-marketing, @andrachy, @elipowell — Can we get that description updated on CoinMarketCap?

UPDATE: I just read this post by @taskmaster4450. Having a look at it may spark some more ideas on what to include in the rewrite.

UPDATE 2: June 6 -- @enginewitty is adding 10SBI to the pot for the winner. He'll also throw in 25 if the submission gets accepted to be used on CoinMarketCap.

Write Your Version and Win

Since I want us to have some fun with this.

Write your version in the comments. Readers, upvote the version you like. (no, my version will not be included. That's just to get you thinking.)

The version with the most votes when this post payouts will receive 5 SBI and 50 SHADE from me.

Don’t forget, at the end of June I’ll be matching the SHADE you obtained during the month with an equal amount. Read about that in the Shade Report

What’s SHADE? Read more about it here

The cryptocurrency STEEM is the token associated directly with the STEEM blockchain. It is created through a system called proof of work - commonly known around the blockchain as 'proof of brain'. It is rewarded to witnesses that secure the blockchain by writing all the transactions to the publicly accessible ledger.

The way this particular graphene chain is designed, it can handle massive amounts of data and transactions in a single 'block'. The vast majority of these transactions come when people use applications and dapps, built by entepreneurial developers, to post their content to the STEEM blockchain. Some of the more popular ones are Steemit - which is a socially designed blogging platform similar to the likes of Tumblr, DTube - which is a video platform akin to YouTube and also Partiko - which is a mobile dapp that resembles Facebook.

All of these (and hundreds more) give your audience the ability to vote in favor (or disapproval) of your posts thereby giving the content creator rewards as proof of work, proving that they 'have a brain'. As this STEEM blockchain grows, more layers and adaptations will be made to accommodate the expanding user base by responding to their suggestions. These will include (and won't be limited to) gaming, social platforms, forums, video, photography, marketplaces, business(es) and a multitude of others.

meh

Thanks man, hoping more people will try their hand.

@enginewitty yeah @shadowspub made a good point, that description is quite outdated and needs updating.

When I get back to my pc, I'll do mine. I'll also throw in 10 SBI for the winner and an extra 25 if it gets accepted and CoinMarketCap edits it per our winner.

Thanks @enginewitty -- I've updated the post.

Much better for sure

This is a fantabulous idea for a nice simple and yet potentially impactful competition.

A lot of posts in my feed atm seem to be about this topic - buzzing about getting steem moving, there's something in the air for sure.

Cheers!

In small ways which will add up we can all participate in getting Steem better known.

I think this is a great idea, and your description is far more succinct and inclusive than the one they are currently using. Great job!

what I wrote is just an example to get others writing .. give it a shot at doing one.

I may do that. ;-)
