The Age Of Abundance Questioned....And Answered

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I want to thank @preparedwombat for putting together an article raising his questions about the Age of Abundance.

Before going any further, to best understand the points he made, please read his post.

Also, since he raised so many valid points, please give his post an upvote in appreciation.

Now to delve into it.

My approach with the Age of Abundance does start with energy. Yet, unlike what @preparedwombat was referring to, my stance is more of the esoteric variety. In short, everything is energy. This was one of the trios that Nikola Tesla alluded to when he talking about understanding the universe. As our solar system floats around, we are entering into different energy fields that affect all matter (humans included).

Some of these ideas date back thousands of years. Cultures such as the Mayans, Hindus, and other stargazers were adept at predicting much of what is coming true. When one researches the characteristics of the different periods, it is easy to see how accurate they were.

A central premise of my entire outlook is the advancements of technology. We live in a technological age; few would argue that. This is one of the primary characteristics of the new Era we are entering. Many dispute the date it started (or when it will start) but the overall trend is fairly clear. Technological progress is accelerating.

I monitor roughly 15 different technologies to determine the timing and trends they are on. Some of them are decades away while others are starting to have an impact already. What is really fascinating is that many are not only converging, they are interconnected in their advancement. For example, autonomous cars and I.O.T. (Internet of Things) will not be widespread or fully realized without 5G technology.

Looking at any issue today as "half empty" (or as @preparedwombat wrote "to big") does not take into account the power of this process. Technological advancement is beyond our linear comprehension. What is going to take place will most likely surprise even the most optimistic futurist.

Renewable energy is growing at an accelerated pace. He was right to point out the drawbacks to fossil fuels. They are not infinite and create a host of problems. This will be solved to a great degree in the next 15 years. Peak oil was a problem a while back, but no longer. Fossil fuels will be a niche market by 2040.

How will we power ourselves?

Most know about the alternatives such as solar, wind, and hydro. Yet to really expand your thinking, let us look at this article from three days ago.

http://www.eurekamagazine.co.uk/design-engineering-news/uk-prototype-fusion-reactor-reaches-15-million-degrees/174685/

Nuclear fusion is what powers the sun. It is safe to say this technology could seriously impact society. When people refer to free and abundant energy, they usually are referring to nuclear fusion.

Before going any further, relax about nuclear fusion. This is different than nuclear fission which is used today. With fusion, there are no radioactive particles generated.

Jonathan Carling, CEO at Tokamak Energy said: “Reaching 15 million degrees is yet another indicator of the progress at Tokamak Energy and a further validation of our approach. Our aim is to make fusion energy a commercial reality by 2030.”

There is a saying that nuclear fusion isonly a decade or two away...something uttered for the past 60 years.

That said, there is a lot of reason to be optimistic at the progress being made. If this process is brought to the commercial level, we will have abundant energy for the entire planet.

Another example cited by @preparedwombat was the fact that silver is used in many renewables and this is not infinite either. He is absolutely correct. So how can we progress down this path knowing that?

Again, that is presuming what we know today will be application in a decade.

Enter quantum computing.

This is another field that is growing at an incredible rate. Many companies made significant progress in the last year. The number of Qubits that are achieved is growing rapidly. This is the first step to making this technology a reality.

While there is progress in the world of quantum, we are a couple decades away, at a minimum, from them being implemented like classical computers are. There are many factors that need to be solved before wide-use quantum computing is even considered as likely. Many experts believe that we will never get to that point.

Nevertheless, one thing we will see in the next 5-10 years is quantum chemistry. This is the running of chemical models using a quantum device. It is less challenging to achieve since you are using the raw processing power of the quantum device. In this sense, the quantum computer is nothing more than a supercomputer on steroids. It is still the processing power that is the reason for the jump.

This breakthrough would have implications in the research of pharmaceuticals and applied materials. It is the later that addresses @preparedwombat's point. While silver the material used today, that is not to say this technology, when it is delivered, will not be able to come up with 4 or 5 alternative chemical combinations that are abundant and even more effective than what we are using.

I love how he brought the entire article around to money. Isn't that at the core of what we are always talking about? The age of scarcity is only possible because of the monetary system we operate under. The fact that money creation (and distribution) was in the hands of a few, meant that most of us did not get much of it. At the same time, many causes are not funded simply because there is not enough money from their supporters.

Being on STEEM teaches us this is no longer the case. We see many different ways to get a hold of STEEM including some really creative ways of financing projects. And this is only the beginning. As I wrote earlier today, SMTs are going to offer up hundreds of billions of dollars worth of tokens to people. This is a huge pot for all of us to share in.

The Age of Abundance is becoming possible because a new monetary paradigm is forming. A central part of the Internet 3.0 is that everyone creates a ton of value. That actually is a main component in Internet 2.0. The difference is we saw the centralization of our efforts that ended up controlled by a few. It is entities such as Facebook, Google, and Amazon that profited, not us.

As we transition to Internet 3.0, data, which has a ton of value, is going to be secured, privatized, and individually owned. This only comes as a result of decentralization which is the foundation of blockchain. Hence, people are going to be paid for their data, what they do, and for their attention. This is possible as a result of tokenization.

I hope this helps to clarify some of the processes that lead me to the Age of Abundance conclusion. It is not just some fancy title I threw together to try and garner attention. By following trends in all these different technologies, I am able to draw some conclusions in a general sense. From there, as time passes, I can get an idea at the pace particular technologies are going and how they are converging. This tends to reveal what is going to have an impact and, more importantly, what is going to break down.

It also helps to maintain a sense of humor when we are hit with a lot of FUD. Looking out over the next 15-20 years makes a 6 month downturn look insignificant.

There is a lot of reason to be optimistic about all that is taking place. I keep diving down enough rabbit holes to make sure that is true.

One request...would some of you artistic, computer gif generated geniuses create some Age of Abundance pictures that can be on Google Images or Pixabay that I can use? That would really be fantastic.

Thanks, that was an interesting read. I like that olyou ended by talking about the money situation, and how blosckchain brings hope. Because indeed, at the moment, we have so many possibilities technology wise, however money more often than not hinders our advancement, contrary to popular belief!

Funny that I was just sitting down at my computer to claim my manna coins this morning!

Block chain as the vehicle for abundance is a very promising prospect indeed. I can see financial institutions rallying hard against that prospect as they generate profit on the backs of the regular folk with the concept of scarcity. Still, I am doing my part to amass my stake and spread a little wealth out from my limited position.

I fear for our planet and aging population as more people live longer but that will be a Zeke 4.0 problem to start trying to solve now.

Fabuloso! Great article, and good news about Nuclear Fusion being developed. We are imagining ourselves into a new reality. All of us contributing, molding and shaping something entirely new.

We stand upon the Event Horizon of so many things as a species, I am filled with wonder continually as I watch it all unfold.

Gives me a real good tingle in the middle! ;)

I can work in others later if you want.

Those are great...thank you...I will certainly use them if it is okay with you.

That's ok, you can use them

If you throw steroids on today’s computers and technology, imagine the possibilities!

I dont think it is an "if".

Even a bunch of old Senators are getting into the act.
