Help - Are you missing anyone in your follow list?

in #steem6 years ago

Several users have reported that they are missing people from their follow list. They are saying that they followed someone, never unfollowed them, but for some reason they are not following them anymore. The system seems to have "lost" the fact that they followed the user.

I am currently trying to look into this in order to try and figure out what is wrong. In order to debug though, I need to find cases where it is currently broken.

Is this happening for you?

Is there an account that you are 100% sure that you followed (and never unfollowed), but it currently shows that you aren't following them anymore? If you have an example where this is occurring for you, please reply in the comments below with details.

Important - do not re-follow the person. If you re-follow them, then I will not be able to investigate what is happening with the data point you provide, because the issue will no longer be occurring. (I need to look into it while it is still 'broken'.)

Sort:

I haven't noticed this happening to me.
BUT I did notice a case where I suddenly found an account's post in my feed that I DEFINITELY would NEVER follow.
It was @dporn
I looked to be absolutely sure, and it does not show me as following that account on their home page.
I took this screen shot on July 28th, and shared it with 3 witnesses that I know in case they had a clue what was happening, or if it was happening to other people too, but nobody had heard of it before.

The other very odd thing is that you can see the post shows as 8 hours old, between a 1-minute-old and 13-minute-old post. The only time that normally happens if it is was resteemed by someone that I follow -- yet this clearly does not show as being a resteem.

So --- is Steemit not only making us unfollow accounts but also sometimes making us follow accounts that we never chose too?
In this case, I finally decided to 'mute' the account so that I don't have to see it in my feed again.

i think its true, im sure i would have 20k followers now instead of 18,5 if this bug wasnt running

If you can find any specific examples that are missing, let me know.

Ok, I'm 100% I followed @eaglespirit and I found out I am no longer following. Did not refollow yet. Hope this helps. I'll also take a look into my history....

That does. I checked here and didn't see any history of the transaction: https://steemdb.com/@eonwarped/following. The next thing to do will be to page through the steemd.com records and see if it shows up there. Two questions that will help narrow it down:

  1. Do you remember about how long ago you followed them?
  2. Was there a period where the follow was 'working', i.e. their posts were showing up in your feed? The reason I ask is I think there is a separate unrelated problem with very similar symptoms, where transactions didn't make it to the blockchain, and were never accepted.

Ugh. Sorry for the noise. I modified my account history script to scan the operations there, and it really doesn't seem like I ever followed this person, and it's probably that my memory is incorrect, and I followed on GINA-bot and not with steem.

Ok, no problem :)

@timcliff I believe this has actually been on going for a good while now... I thought I was losing my mind but I guess not after all.... I wish I had some actual proof for you, but I do know that there were a few people that I was following on here that I had to re-follow.... but like I said, that was a while ago and don't remember exact specifics.

Nice, I can finally unfollow some people and have another excuse than "I'm following too many, sorry".

Well, be careful ;) If you actually unfollow them it will show the unfollow on the blockchain. With the issue people are reporting, there is no 'unfollow' transaction.

Seems like @acidyo needs this tool by @holger80.

Bookmarked ;D

I have not checkef Snook case just that I had to refollow and pretty sure I did not unfollow. Refollowed yesterday or so.

Haha yeah, I will have to do it right before I write a new post. :p

Thats savage af acid ahahaha

Feel free to unfollow. All I do is make pointless posts about lame 2D platformers and other Mario games. :)

(Seriously, dude. If you follow too many, feel free. I doubt I post much that interests you.)

It's happened to quite a few people...including myself...but can you ever be truly sure you didn't just forget to follow them? Or maybe unfollowed them by accident? Or because their posts kinda suck...

I have blamed myself for this and my big muppet fingers at the small phone screens but at least these days yes I am pretty sure it happened with @paintingangels and @snook cos I had to refollow and I was not active at the time unfollowing.

Hey @timcliff. I have been noticing this too.
Lately I have been re-following the accounts, but next time I notice I will let you know.

Gee, I wonder if it is. I finally, a few months back, just put a folder in tabs of many of the people I follow so I can find them that way. It's more labour intensive, but then I can try not to miss out on people, but sometimes someone will pop up and I'll think, "gee I thought I was following them"

here's the thing...
I thought for sure, a few weeks ago, I was follwing 213 people.
Now, it says 211.

But I have no idea who is missing

no need to, but if you are curious you could review your activity here:
