A guide to Steem for new Steemians (4)

Help NewBies (3).jpg

I have already talked about a lot of things from which I think new Steemians can benefit during their Steemit journey. I got a lot of comments on the post-series which I am very thankfull for, but for me the most important is to get new people on their way and that people will stay on this great platform. The power of this great platform is really engaging, bonding and learning from eachother...

Dustsweeper

@bengy pointed me to @dustsweeper , as one of the best services for starting people here on @steemit. I did know about dustsweeper and was indeed already intending to write about this great service.

So what is Dustsweeper

Source

The design from steemit is that rewards which are to small (2 cents) will vanish and won't get paid to the author. That is a designchoice of the developers from which you can say something, but that's how things are :). What dustsweepers does is upvoting those posts to the amount that it will get paid after the 7-day period. In that way newcomers do get rewarded. The thing is because of newcomers haven't got a lot of following often, the rewards they get on posts are at first quite low. And when they are below the threshold, any small rewards disapear.
Dustsweeper is an initiative supported by Witness @danielsaori. Daniel is also one of the co-founders, together with @davemccoy.

Minnowbooster

Source

Minnowbooster is a pack of services to help beginners (Minnows) on their way on the Steem blockchain. They offering some great oppertunities to earn some SBD or SP on top of your own rewards. I must confess I don't have any experience with them so far, but I just started a service just to look how it works.

@ilyastarar has written a great and complete post about Minnowbooster, have a look at it here.

Delegating Steempower

Although for beginners it probably isn't of any interest yet (because the amount of SP isn't any high yet). I do want to point out that it is possible to delegate your steempower to services, users etc. Delegating is kind or renting your SP to other people / groups to use it.

Delegating steempower will not give your steempower to the other, it will always be your steempower and you will get it back after the determined time of delegating. You can't use it yourself during the time that you delegated it

The benefit in delegating steempower can be diverse. Some services will offer you interest over the time that they are able to use it or will give you some higher upvotes on your own posts (like a lot of curating groups).

Why would I delegate my steempower?
There can be various reasons. Some people just delegate out of generousity, to help people grow on Steemit.. I know my good friend @steevc is such a Steemian with the right mindset.. Others do it because of they are part of a group or sub-commnity and with steempower delegated from a lot of people to one account, that accounts get quite powerfull in terms of upvoting. That account would be used again to upvote the posts of people in that group. So in fact all people together make a way to earn for their hardworked content..

Of course it is up to you if you want to delegate SP to anything or anyone, but keep in mind that your reason should be to help eachother and/or the community.. Me personal, I can't level with people who only do this out of own interest...

Resteem- and bidbots

This subject is one that is already talked a lot about on steemit and everbody is of course entitled to it's own opinion.

Resteem bots and services
A resteem is like the share button in Facebook with the difference in Facebook you can enter some text going with the share so people can actually read why you shared it. On Steemit that is (yet) not possible, personally I hope they will add it because it creates context in why you are resteeming it.

Wat a resteem service does is 'just' sharing your posts among their following. Often these accounts have thousands of followers so in potential your post get's exposed to thousands of Steemians... So this might sound like a great way to show your content to a lot of people.

For a resteem service you have to pay, often a ammount of SBD accompanied with your posting URL. The persons behind the account then will resteem your posts, often automated. How high the ammount is you have to pay depends per service, but I can tell you that nothing is for free and the higher your payment often the better the service and thus the higher your reward.

My personal opinion is that those services aren't really interesting anymore because of the fact there are som many already and the rewards and upvotes you get in return are often lower then your 'investment' though for newcommers it might be a way to get your posts to a lot of people...

Upvote bots or bid bots
These bots are point of big discussions on Steemit because they are often abused with the wrong intenstions. But first things first.

A bidbot is a bot which you can send steem of steemdollars to with your link of your post. Often the bot will upvote every hour all the posts who have made a contribution to that bid round in order of amount people contributed. So if you paid a dollar and someone else paid two dollars, of course the person who paid two dollars gets a bigger upvote than you (obvious). But the danger in using these bots lies in the overcommitment of the bot. This means that to much people are in that bid round so the bot can't pay more than you have paid yourself (because of the vote power and amount) so you get paid less then you have paid yourself and it is a bad investment. So if you do decide to use a bid bot, study good at the bid bot and it's rewards.

A site where you can find all the available bot's and there info is:
https://steembottracker.com/

Abuse of the bid bot's
As I mentioned in the beginning there are people outthere with the wrong intensions of using a bidbot. Although it is legit, I think it is the wrong intension.

So what do they do? They pay a load of money to the bidbot from which they get a massive upvote, the spread their money across multiple bidbots so the get even more rewarded.... A lot of there steemians get on the 'trending' page using this glitch in Steemit.

Example

One of the most famous users of bidbots on Steemit is chbartist, he invests a lot of money in bidbots to get his posts highly rewarded and on the trending page. While I was looking a bit at the comments and upvotes on his posts there are a lot of bots involved. The catch beside the bot upvoting is that a lot of (most low rep steemians) are triggered by his posts and upvote his posts in the hope to get a upvote back, something he not often does btw...

As you can see in the above picture he throws in a lot of money..... Of course everybody is entitled to do what they want, for me this is abusing the system... But you can form your own opinion of course.

So this was part four, stay tuned for part five..

This post is part of a serie, the older posts you can find here

In the next part I will discuss some things about curation strategy (was ment for this post, but it's already a long post as it is) , keeping inspired to post and some other cool things :)

Have a great sunny day

Bidbots....dont get me started man.

High level info for newbies again.. I think think fresh minnow will have their head tumbeling after all this info hahaha

I used minnowbooster exclusively during my bot days. Now I don't even use qustodian, no longer interested in them.

I've never used it, now I entered just to see what's it about. :)

This was certainly a great help. a great heads up!

Thank you !!

Wow, this is great and useful information for newbie, even for the minnows. I like this.

Bid bots I use much less than before. But what always irked me was that some people wouldn't check steembottracker.com for the current state of bids and would just plonk down a pile of cash, which would cause everyone to lose money... Including themselves!

PS steembottracker.com has a really really useful delegation tool! And a bot front runner tool!

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 25 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 9 SBD worth and should receive 153 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.
