Which content to post?

Everbody is different and everybody wants to share content a different way. And the great thing is that it is all possible on the Steem blockchain.

@Dtube is the decentralised counterpart of platforms like Youtube. I use dtube to put out my video's on Steemit, like many other add-ons on Steem the posts you put up there will automaticly show in your steem timeline. Take in mind that when you post a video on dtube it can take some time before it is really uploaded. You notice this when your video is lagging a bit. The great thing about @dtube is that you don't have any ad's and censorship... Just put out your video and upload it through dtube :)

If you just want to post music or audio clips, you can use @dsound. It's a great tool to upload your audiofiles. It works a bit the same as dtube, everything you post on dsound automaticly will appear on your blog. Have a look at @outoftune he make excellent use of dsound.

If you are not a real storyteller or you are missing inspiration , you can have a look at @steemhunt . Steemhunt is a application on the steem blockchain where you can post products which you have hunted. So if you are really into new tech products and you know where the releases of these products are, you can put this on Steemhunt for other people to see. You also can get rewarded for hunting and they have a daily top ten. check them out on https://steemhunt.com/

Tasteem is the Steem original Michelin guide... just kidding. On @tasteem you can post your personal reviews on restaurants, bar's, club's etc. They also have weekly contests on certain subjects. If I am correct they just closed the platform to redevelop some of their functions. But they will be back. I have already entered some restaurants and it's pretty cool to see other restaurants outthere.

@dlive is the platform to broadcast your live streams. You see a lot of gamers on it, but also musicians playing and interacting live with fellow steemians. There are a lot of great tutorials outthere to stream with OBS for instance.

@Steepshot is a instagram like application , you can upload pictures to your steepshot space with your mobile (there is a app) or in your browser. I like the ease of the app , you can take a picture and share it in a blink with Steepshot. I often use it when I am on the road... Great app..

Engagement and interact

As you already know by now Steemit is about engagement and interacting. We are building a big and strong community together. While sometimes it is difficult to interact with people on steemit itself because there is no real chat function, a lot of people use discord to do so. It's actually quiet easy and you can meet (almost) all people on steemit in one of the discord servers, you just have to figure out where :)...

A other important thing is, at least I think it is, it not to only react on people's post wit a "wow nice post" or "thank you it helped me" , those are not saying anything about the post itself or what you think of that particular posts. In some cases it is considered spamming and you can be flagged, flagging is a downvote which can cost you your reputation in the end. So if you are going to comment on a post, be sure that you really comment on that post. At least let the other know that you really have read the post and talk about that... It sounds so obvious but a lot make the mistake by not doing that...

Do's and dont's

Consider Steemit as a kind of social platform where you meet people and act like if you are meeting those persons on real life. Like in normal life you have a kind of 'etiquette' of morals and values. Steemit is no different, so it would be great if everyone lived up to those standards.

These do's and dont's are all from my own perspective of course, so it's no written rule:

Do's

  • When somebody gives a comment on your post, it is normal behaviour to answer them back. Even if it's just a simple "thank you"...
  • upvote on comments and posts you like and have read for real.
  • Support people who are just on steemit, but of course only when you can relate to the topic's or person.. There are quite some people on steemit who deserves a fair chance...
  • Treat people the way you yourself want's to be treatend, with respect...

Dont's

  • Don't beg for an upvote. If you beg people for a upvote they get (understandable) anoyed.. It's like begging for a penny. If people like your posts the upvotes will show up eventually.
  • I get a lot of private messages trough discord of people asking "upvote for an upvote" ..So exchanging upvotes without have read the content... No Go for me....
  • Commenting on posts you even don't like in the hope to receive something in return...
  • using someone elses pictures without knowing if you can or without mentioning the person
  • Copying someones posts for your own (yes it truly happens)

    Creating exposure

The main problem of a lot of beginners is getting exposure on Steemit. There are a lot of posts per minute so the chance to be seen it smaller when you have a small following. If you having a hard time getting your posts exposed you can try to participate in contests. There are a lot of contests on Steemit, from writing, music, photography and many many more. The great thing is that you can participate and even win a few SBD or so :) ..

There are also a lot of challenges with a lot of subjects to join. I personal like the 7-days challenges, The have also different toppics, but then you have at least 7 days to write about things (in case you don't have any inspiration...

So look at the hashtag #contest or #challenge to see which cool things are happening on Steemit...

So this was part five, stay tuned for part six..

This post is part of a serie, the older posts you can find here

Have a great sunny day

Many good tips here! This is the first time I heard of @tasteem. Will look into that...
There are indeed many many many challenges out here in Steemit. Everyday there are more than one challenge going on. Some are for a short period of time. Some are long term challenges.
Many many awesome communities we can join too...

thank you very much !! There is so much to do here lol :)

@verhp11 you are most welcome. indeed, there's a lot to fo here.👍

What a lovely surprise to see the Finish The Story Contest included in your insightful guide, @verhp11! Thanks and tip! Today I'll publish the 20th edition, with 72 sbi shares and 22 sbd distributed so far.. you're all welcome!
I believe that time management is really essential when we approach to a deep and geeky platform like steemit.. you don't want to waste time (we all know how easy is that) but having a great experience. I look always for quality (more than being a posting machine gun) and suggest to find selfless and decentralised communities, some are better than others. I always liked to stay with minnows with whom I can build something in a non pyramidal way, personally. There would be so much to say hehe.. However, I loved your outspoken and positive attitude, man. Keep up the good work always ✌️😎

Thank you very much, much appreciated.. And we are all here to cooperate in on or another :)

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Copying someones posts for your own (yes it truely happens).
It should be truly instead of truely.

I'm getting a bit tired of this bot :)

That's because perhaphs you still didn't experience the haiku-bot one.. 🤪

lol, I have, that one is just a bad :P

That's a truly naughty biatch :-P

Very useful steemit tutorial

Its a shame @tasteem has gone, albeit temporarily. They were vetting the articles at the end, people were taking advantage. I'm not sure if that was the reason, but I hope it returns soon.

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 21 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 11 SBD worth and should receive 153 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Loving the way you are extending support and key knowledge points to new steemers. It matters. Much gratitude.

I'm here for three months now, and I know how difficult it can be to get started on Steemit. It's even quite hard to figure out how the economy works, with author- and curation rewards, bid-bots, flags, a thousand different tags, the influence of Steem Power versus liquid SBD's... You easily get lost here, and that's after you're blown aback by the sheer volume and variety of content being offered! I'm still not 100% comfortable with all aspects of it: I still have half of my slots available for voting on Steemit Witnesses: very important to do when building that strong community, so you must get to know them well enough to trust them with your vote... I could go on and on, but what I really want to say is this: You do very important and much appreciated work here, @verhp11! On behalf of starting Steemians everywhere I'd like to say Thank You! :-)

I would suggest to focus on good contests, which most of the time are also worthy groups/communities.. that always worked for me. Three months and you're a 56 rep, not bad.. something tells me that you don't need much advice ;-)

Really Nice number 5 alot is said and you even have a truffle now and a pig peter je dag kan niet meer stuk 😂 great Info, is There a sixted coming?
