Dividends and ROI: Why I Would Not Want To Sell My Principal Steem

in #steem5 years ago

Hey everyone,

The amount of steem return you can get from delegating plus the 2% interest is crazy. I am looking at a 22% return roughly and that is a lot better than you will get in the stock market and any savings account. Plus you can use the steem power to vote when you want to or promote something.

It is getting to the point where even if I make the steem I want to and the price goes up a lot I am going to be hesitant to sell any of my principal. Even at $5-$10 a steem it would still be hard to sell a good amount of it. I think I would sell 10k at $10 but I would be thinking a lot about it before I hit that button. Ideally you would want to get to the point where you could live off the interest and this site lets you do that at amounts lower than you would find elsewhere.

This is great for the system as a lot of users will be holding steem as the network grows and with good reason.

Is there a number you would be selling at or is interest for life your end goal?

Imagine selling that at $10 and then watching it go to $20

I power down weekly and live a comfortable life of poverty in SE Asia. I have been doing this since Dec 2017. I'm here full time with two blogs and helping on a third.

Even though I am powering down, my sp grows by my incessant blogging, contest entries, and commenting. I would love a price rise so I could have breathing room in my budget, but at this point I am not complaining.

I feel like I am in the vanguard of people who can actually use steem instead of looking at it as an investment. I am not alone in pulling funds out while continuing to work here.

I also lease delegated sp as part of my strategy, and I normally pay around 14% for that privilege through @minnowbooster. Most of my leases start at 24 weeks and extend from there if the person takes me up on it.

Hi @fitinfun,
My brother is living in Thailand at the moment and he is struggeling because he is not allowed to work with his visa. Do you have a kind of tutorial how you manage to make your income with steemit?

Best regards,
Achim

It is not easy by any means! I have this old post with many tips I use. Do not vote on it, but he can work through and try all the ideas.

Since I wrote this I have some more things working, but I need to write another post soon.

Basically:

  • Post often
  • Comment often
  • Develop a network of people who will vote for your posts
  • 90% of posts go to contests and challenges
  • at least 50% of comments are for contests
  • follow and participate in initiatives the give votes for participation
  • go for things like sbi and qurator that give automatic votes.
  • do what works; stop what does not work.

If your brother needs help or encouragement, he can ask me a question on any post or by tagging me. I will do the best I can to help him.

Thank you very much for this extensive reply. I will forward him the information. It might be a good solution for him to generate some income over time.
Best regards,
Achim

Yes, there is no quick fix. This is a marathon and you have to show up each day to make it work :)

Totally agree with you :) maybe we gonna see soon bull trends in altcoin market ;)

At $5 I would sell enough to cover my original investment and at $10 would sell about 1k of it to have a nice profit but after thay I wouldn't touch my core steem. I earn enough per month now that at $10 I could sell me earnings and do very well without touching my sp. Combine that with the dividends and other tokens I get from having steem and I would be very happy with it.

I started stacking STEEM very slowly and organicly from the beginning. The initial idea was to make money that I could use to improve my lifestyle and use it to help folks here in the meantime.

That plan changed the more I learned.

Now, I can imagine $10 STEEM and salivate at the value of my stake at that point. When it comes to that level, I picture not even being able to sell any. I will be too hooked on the ability to drop $3 votes on the new folks and people who could really use it.

So, the swing trader in me may take advantage of some peaks but it will probably be with the intent of buying even more in a dip.

Now, it is my precious and I can't imagining powering down at all. Such a good investment

I agree with you and probably above $10, I would stop to power up and take earnings to diversify into other income generating assets, if I can find one!

I will sell 10% at $100 USD :)

Selling @ 20 but only the interest. My principal is 1000

I've sold the little steem I gained. I came back once again and I hope I stick around longer this time. I'm more of a reader than a content creator so I dip out a bit when people stop posting.
