Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #90
Hello everyone, today I join you all to participate in the steem agro weekly contest to provide my knowledge about Forestation.
Explain in detail the term "Forestation" |
|---|
Forestation entails the planned planting, cultivation and conservation of trees in suitable areas in order to establish and manage forests. This can be done through the afforestation process whereby trees are planted on lands that lacked forest cover before as well as reforestation whereby forest cover is replenished in areas where trees have been logged or destroyed due to mining, wildfire, and other environmental degradation. In addition to planting trees, forestation is an eco-restorative exercise that entails restoring forest ecosystems for various benefits.
Forests do not only play a role of increasing the number of trees. They serve as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the environment and reducing the impacts of climate change. Apart from that they contribute to soil stability prevent erosion, and facilitate water penetration, conserving the watersheds and regulating temperature. Various forms of flora and fauna have their habitat in the forest ecosystem, and there is an array of living beings benefiting from the forests through shelter and food. The forests increase the efficiency of agricultural activities through soil fertility and ecological balance, as well as provide various renewable resources.
Forestation requires careful planning and good knowledge of science along with sustainable management practices. The use of indigenous species, preparation of proper site for planting, protection of seedlings from diseases, pests, grazing, and illegal felling is a must, as well as cooperation with local people. All those activities ensure that forests created will be healthy and will survive for a long period of time. Properly done, forestation can be called one of the most efficient ways of reclamation of degraded areas, preservation of biodiversity, and increasing climate resistance of the area.
Explain the importance of Forestation in Agriculture? |
|---|
Forestation is an integral part of farming because it contributes to making an environment favorable for agricultural activities. Firstly, trees act as a barrier from the wind and prevent soil erosion, They enrich the soil with nutrients through fallen leaves and other parts of plants, Trees' roots contribute to better structure of the soil water absorption and prevention of surface runoff. As a result the soil retains moisture during periods of drought. Secondly, forestation promotes the sustainability of agriculture by supporting biodiversity and balance of ecosystems, The forest provides homes for insects and birds that help in pollination of crops and pest control. It regulates local climate by maintaining temperature and high humidity as well as bringing precipitation. Apart from ecological factors forestation provides additional sources of income such as timber, firewood, fruits, fodder and medicinal herbs.
I here by invite @bossj23, @suboohi, @lirvic, and @memamun to participate in this contest.
