STEEMCHURCH - Having A Personal Relationship With God

For every believer that knows what he/she is doing, having a personal relationship with God is paramount while we sojourn on this earth. It is not a relationship that is optional or something you can decide when to be in it or when not to be in it. We were given a shot at a second chance because God's love is supreme. He values the bond and relationship that existed from the time of Adam and Eve. God wants us to have that special bond with Him. He wants us to personally relate with Him as every father/child relationship should go.

Just like every relationship that needs to be nurtured for a better and solid journey. Our walk with God needs to be held at a high value and must be taken very seriously and not for granted. So, here are some of the ways in which we can have that bond and have that awesome experience with God;

SEEK TO KNOW GOD MORE:
One of the ways we can get close to anyone is when we seek to know the person more. Having a personal relationship with God is not something we can do from a distance. We need to have that desire to find and make an attempt to know Him more. In order to understand the way God works, we need to understand how God sees things and how Jesus would react to every situation while he was on earth by so doing we will not be strangers to the ways of the Lord.

A relationship becomes healthier when the people involved understanding each other, and on this part, I know God already knows everything about us even before we were born, Now, it is left for us to get to know Him for a better understanding of His personality. The quest to know God the more shouldn't stop at a particular point because the more we search for Him the sweeter the experience.

HUMBLE YOURSELF:
Let's take a look at the relationship we have with our earthly father. When dealing with our earthly father have we ever try to rub shoulders with them? Well, as for me, I am humbled as I can be whenever I am dealing with my dad. I understand that he knows more than I do and he has been in existence way before I was born. This should count for something especially when dealing with our heavenly Father. In order for us to have a personal relationship with God, it is very vital to be humble before Him. I mean God is full of wisdom and He knows it all. Pride can hinder our relationship with God besides He also hates the proud and cannot stand it. Humility is one of the ways we can have access to Him knowing fully well that we are nothing without Him even the man with the highest IQ on earth is nothing compared to the knowledge of God.

What am I saying? Anyone that wants to have a personal relationship with God must put away pride and humble himself before the Almighty and All-knowing God. Two captains cannot actually be on the same boat. Jesus humbled himself to die for us and God honored him with a name above all names. This is what we get when we humble ourselves before Him. It comes with a lot of blessings and it will surely enhance that relationship that we seek.

CONFESS EVERY SIN:
It is a well-known fact that we serve and worship a Holy God who cannot stand iniquity. And, just like every relationship, mistakes are bound to happen sometimes. He knows this which is why He also made room for repentance. He is a God of a second chance. The prodigal son sinned against his dad, but realizes his mistakes and came back home to his father and asked for his forgiveness. If we continue to live and stay in sin, it becomes very difficult to maintain the relationship we have with God, but if we retrace our steps by admitting that we're wrong then we can easily fall back on track. We cannot have a personal relationship if we are of the world.

There is no shame in asking God for mercy over the sins that we've committed. What matters is the repentance and how sorry we truly are. In addition, the Bible says our holiness is like a filthy rag before Him meaning we can't really claim to be holy. No one is perfect, but the good news is that God is willing and ready to forgive us of our sins but this also doesn't give us the right to continue to live in sin as it will spoil the relationship with Him and keep us stagnant.

HAVE FAITH IN GOD:
The whole essence of our faith starts and ends here. I mean, it is impossible and unreal to pursue a course when you don't believe in it. It doesn't make sense if you ask me at least before you start up any relationship you must have it at the back of your mind that the relationship is worth starting in the first place. Yes, there might be doubts in the first place, but there must be a little conviction somewhere in your heart.

Having a personal relationship with God is all about having faith in Him. Having the faith that He is real and His word is true knowing truly well that the relationship is worth dying for no matter what people think. The truth is that without faith, there won't be any relationship at all. And without that same faith, we cannot even please God. So, imagine starting up a relationship where one person is not happy. Faith in God is key in having a personal relationship with Him. This simply means that without faith our relationship with Him is zero and we can't receive from Him either.

A relationship without having that unique connection is totally useless. Faith is that connection we have with God and without it, there is no conversation. In our walk with God faith and trust are key. The thing is, the higher we grow in faith, the better our relationship with God because it exposes us to the deeper knowledge of God.

STUDY THE WORD:
When we choose not to study the word of God is like a student who enrolled for a course at the university, but decides not to study and learn what he signed up to do in the first place. It is impossible to know about something without studying yet you want to know about that thing. The word of God is God Himself, His nature, His attributes, His ways, and His promises. So, when we do study the word, it gives us the opportunity to know Him and relate with Him. And when we meditate on His word, it gives us the opportunity to put those words into us hence increase our love for Him.

The word is for guidance and to direct our path. We can achieve that personal relationship when we study through the help of the Holy Spirit because as we study His word, the Holy Spirit also ministers to us and by so doing it opens our spiritual eyes to the ways of the Lord. The study of God's word cannot be overemphasized as it is one of the ways we can have a personal relationship with God.

EFFECTIVE PRAYER:
Any relationship without communication cannot make headway. Whenever we pray to God Almighty, we also communicate with Him and it comes with a bond. Bonding makes relationships to grow. Through prayers, we talk to Him about our needs, praise and worship Him, what we are passing through, and virtually everything about our life. It is not as if He is not aware of these things, after all, He is the All-knowing God, but He wants us to talk to Him about it.

Honestly, you can only share your secret with someone that you can trust and someone you have a relationship with. The truth is if our prayer life is not strong then definitely our relationship with Him will also not be strong because there is no relationship without communication. Another thing is that if we don't communicate often with God then we must examine ourselves. Isn't it weird when people don't talk with their earthly father especially if the man has lived up to expectation? In addition, one of the greatest weapons we have as believers is prayer. Adequate prayers will not only put us ahead of our enemies, but it will also establish our personal relationship with God. Through prayer, we get to understand the mind of God. Secondly, if we are not in the right tune with Him it becomes very difficult to even pray.

In Conclusion,

Having a personal relationship with God is something we should all desire, cherish, and give it all the attention that it truly deserves. There is no one on earth that is not important to God, He wants us all to connect with Him. He wants us to have that liberty in His presence. God is not selective of those He loves. He is not looking at your height, race, beauty, physique, or how poor you are rather He loves everyone who believes in Him and trusts on His word. Someone who is ready to have a relationship with Him. I am not saying things will be easy, but I know we can do all things through Christ Jesus.
