Beware of misinterpretations.

Since childhood I have heard many Christians repeat this verse

James 4:4

4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

I have even seen how many people have misunderstood this verse. Why do I say this, because there are many who believe that this refers to "DO NOT treat unsaved people" and make a big mistake in behaving in this way.

God is merciful, he came to give us salvation to all. How can a person demonstrate the love of Christ, if he does not treat the liar, the drug addict, the prostitute, the beggar, etc.? Our job on this earth is precisely to help these people know the truth and get out of the sin in which they find themselves.

In addition, we were also sinners, and someone at some point preached to us and led us on the way to get to Jesus, so why do many Christians hide in this verse to judge?

1 Corinthians 1:27-31.

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things — and the things that are not — to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God — that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who acknowledges boast in the Lord.”

We have all been justified, and we were all sinners, in the Lord's people we are all equal and we all have the same opportunities to have a healthy and holy life in the presence of God.

James 4:4 in saying Friendship with the world, refers to participating in the things of the world, in its delights and sins. You can treat the drunk, preach to him, be his friend, but you should never participate in his drunkenness, nor get drunk. You can preach to the prostitute and not participate in what she does. This is what this verse refers to.

Do not mix with the things of the world, do not participate in those things that the world does and that we know do not please God and are not according to his word, because if you participate in those things there you will be an enemy of God!
