TYPES OF ANOINTING.

There are two types of anointing.

The anointing that is above the believers is the only one known in the Old Testament. Then he was referring to three categories of people who could not exercise their ministry without being anointed. They were the kings, the prophets and the priests.

The anointing that is within, proper of the New Testament, concerns all believers. Being born again and, therefore, being in Christ, they are anointed. This anointing dwells in the believer, has the purpose of giving him revelation of the Word, allows him to discern the true from the false, what comes from God of what does NOT come from him and, ultimately, protects him from deception.

1 John 2:20

But you have the anointing of the Holy One, and you know all things.

1 John 2:26-27

26 I have written this to you about those who deceive you. 27 But the anointing that you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you; just as the anointing itself teaches you all things, and it is true, and it is not a lie, as it has taught you, remain in it.
Saying: "Know all things", the apostle John means that we have an internal discernment that allows us to recognize falsehood and protects us from deception. His words suggest that even at that time false doctrines were preached. Specifying: "the anointing dwells in you ... teaches you everything and it is true ...", the apostle makes us understand that it helps us to keep ourselves in the truth and works as a vaccine against falsehood.

The two types of anointing work differently: the anointing that is above us shows the power of Christ, and enables us to be His witnesses, the anointing that is within us shows His character, His personality.

Acts 1: 8

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

The anointing that is within us has to do with authority. When Jesus gave the twelve a transitory mission, He gave them power and authority over all demons and all diseases.

Luke 9: 1

Then, gathering his twelve disciples, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.
The authority we can exercise depends on the character we have gained, the testimony we give and how credible we are. If we do not give good testimony, we are not credible. Our authority can be strengthened by the example and good testimony we give to others.

Very good teaching sister, in reality that gift of discernment is important in us, but the anointing that protects us from all deception and falsehood.

That's right, and that way we can be alert! God bless you, sister.
