Who has the first place in your life?
Greetings brothers and friends,
As human beings, we are sentimental people. If someone asked us, who has the first place in your life? To many, the first thing that comes to mind is My children, my husband or wife, my parents, my family, in short ... someone in particular.
Many say work, chores or even an object or animal the first place in their lives.
What can we see in the Bible regarding this:
Luke 10: 38-42.
38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
There are people who in their life leave God in the last place, because they put all are first, clean, fix, go shopping, work, etc. Everything is first that to give God a time ... It is not about giving him the time left over, or giving him a few minutes or seconds in the day. It is a quality time, just as we should dedicate to our children and our family ... That quality time with God.
In the verses we can see that Mary was delighted to hear the word of Jesus, she knew that the chores are always there, and that at any moment she could resume them, but the visit of Jesus was something special, she knew how to give him the place that he deserved. Maria valued his presence and didn't care about anything else.
On the contrary, Martha did not give importance to Jesus, because for her the rest was more important instead of listening to what Jesus was telling them. It is obvious that for Martha, household chores had first place in her life.
Many people miss the opportunity to hear what God wants to tell them, because they have not put it first in their lives. They have not given him the importance that God deserves and that is why the task consume his life and when the night comes, they feel overwhelmed, tired and often without a sure course because they do not let themselves be led by the Lord.
Let us be like Mary, let us choose the good part… Let us always give God the first place… and the rest will come in addition!
