A House of Prayer Not A Hideout For Bandits

When they came to Jerusalem, he went into the Temple and began to throw out those who were selling and those who were buying in the Temple. He overturned the moneychangers’ tables and the chairs of those who sold doves. He wouldn’t even let anyone carry a vessel through the Temple. Then he began to teach them: “It is written, is it not, ‘My house is to be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you’ve turned it into a hideout for bandits!” Mark 11:15-17

If anyone ask me about the safest place on earth I will say it is the house of God. God dwells or inhabits in any place where people gather and call for His presence and where ever the spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty.

One cannot go to the house of the Lord and still come back the same way he went, there has to be a transformation; total change in his life. One cannot carry any burden to the house of the Lord and still carry it back when it said that we should cast all our cares on Him for He cares for us.

Today people go to God's house and still come back the same, we hardly see changes in the lives of many people who go to the house of the Lord and this is because the they either go there with a wrong motive or for a wrong purpose.

The purpose for which we gather at our various places of worship(God's house) has been abused. The house of the Lord is a house of prayer. It is a place where believers spend quality time to commune with the father, the God of all flesh in prayer. We go to God's house to pray, worship and praise His holy name and not for any other reasons.

When Jesus got to Jerusalem He expected to see people praying in the temple or worshipping God by giving Him thanks and adoration but the case was different. They have actually turned a whole building where believers prayed to God into a market place.

Some where selling doves and others have become money exhcangers and were polluting the temple and dishonoring it. A house which was suppose to be a holy place was now full of criminals, robbers, cheaters and robbers mingling together.

The same thing is happening in places where Christians meet today. Many people have turned those places as market centres doing business instead of praying and performing other religious activities there.

Many men of God now sells all kinds of items in the house of God and some have become extortionist using all kinds of tactics they call "direction" from God just to extort believers of their monies.

Some will even hide under the so called "seed sowing" and dupe people of their money all in the name of giving it to God or using it for God's work when they will only end up lavishing it on them self and living extravagant lifestyles.

It is so easy to abuse something when you don't know it's purpose. The church place is suppose to be a hospital that gives medication to sinners to repent of their sins and give their lives to God as a pleasing sacrifice. it shouldn't be their hideouts, they are not to be nurtured there to do more evil or practice what is sinful.

People should go to the church place and comes back changed and not remain the same. If all these can happen then believers of God must use the house of God for its right purpose. God should have mercy on our generation for the church place is no more safe since all kinds of acts are being performed there and leading many astray.

We need to be watchful and address any wrong thing that is done in the house of the Lord just like Jesus did if indeed we need God's presence for God cannot live in the same place with evil.
