The force Behind A Prevailing Prayer
A prayer combine with fasting produces remarkable results. As prayerful as Christ was, he also amplified his prayers with fasting. He knew the secret behind prayers and fasting which his disciples didn't know of. There is a secret power behind a man who pray and fast.
God prefers a spiritual man not a natural man
But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 1 Cor.2:14
The dealings of God are only with a spiritual men not with natural men. God is interested and is looking out for spiritual men and women.
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
God prefers men who go on fast,
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?” Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”Mark 9:14-29
The disciples of Jesus had not been into any serious trouble until a certain man whose son was demonically possessed brought him for deliverance. With their know hows and prayers, they couldn't prevail until Jesus came to the scene. Jesus told them the reason for their inability to prevail over the demon. He said , “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.
This means fasting has been one of the reasons why he had prevailed over demons in prayers. He said "this kind" a demon of this nature, which has possessed person for a very long time and wants to kill him, dealing with such demon requires not just prayers but also fasting.
To prevail over certain situations in prayers, fasting is a requirement
Jesus meant a lot when he said" This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting. There are more to be understood from this statement. When Jesus appeared on the scene he first asked how long the boy has been tormented by this demon.
The father said since his childhood, this should tell you how strong this demon has been deeply rooted and gain total dominion over the boy. This is the reason why it has many a times decided the boys fate as to how and when to kill him. Dealing with this kind of demon requires more than just prayers.
Esther would not approach her own husband to save her own people until she had proclaimed a fast Esther 4:16
Nehemiah would not go ahead to build his city walls until he had fasted first? Nehemiah.1:4
God gave out the ten commandments to Moses after he had fasted for forty days forty nights.
God allowed angels to minister to Jesus during his fast and after was able to start his ministry.Mathew.4:11

One of the secrets to a spiritual living is fasting. It helps to reduce and subdue the influences of the natural desires. Until we switch to the spiritual realm, it will always be difficult for us when dealing with God.
Prayer – A Place of Supernatural Protection Job tells us there is a secret place, known and available only to God’s children. And when God’s children enter into it, only then is the power of God activated on their behalf and on behalf of those in desperate need:
“There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it” (Job 28:7-8Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)).
There is a path, a place which no fowl knows. That place is the secret place, that glorious place so secure and protected that no demonic power can find it. It is a place hidden in God that no vulture’s eye has seen. No demon on earth or satan, the enemy of our souls, has seen or knows. It is a place of refuge, a place of safety that no lion’s whelps (principalities and powers) pass by—not even the lion, satan. That place is the place of prayer. The psalmist tells us it is in that secret place that you will find the Lord to be your refuge and fortress, and it is in that secret place that He covers you with His wings so that no evil will befall you nor will any plague come nigh to your dwelling. That secret path, that secret place is prayer.

As a Christian what keeps us going is the word and prayers, we must learn how to pray and fast for us to be strong in the spirit.
When prayer is combined with fasting, it makes impossibilities possible
and further also brings non-existence to reality.
Prayer again with fasting advances one's spiritual growth.
As Christians we must often fast and pray to enable us walk in spirit and
