CHILDREN ARE AMAZING IMITATORS

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Yesterday, a friend of mine sent me a comic video via WhatsApp, which apparently gave me the inspiration to write this piece. Sounds funny, right?

Honestly, children are fun to be with; but then, they are very good observers.

John Locke in his famous work entitled “Essay Concerning Human Understanding” popularized the theory of “tabula rasa” that at birth the human mind is a "blank slate"; meaning anyone born of woman, at birth knew nothing. But as a child begin to interact with his or her environment, he or she begins to process, and register diverse information in his or her brain, as growth and development unfold in phases. This shows that children depend on their environment (constituting individuals, particularly the older ones) to be able to understand and see their world clearly, themselves, as well as their future.

No wonder, someone once said that a child can be shaped into anything that one desires (paraphrased!). In other words, children can be made what their parents, basically, as well as the adult members of the society desire; meaning a child can be shaped into a great individual, a teacher, doctor, engineer, or as the case may be!

Having said this, what do we have in our world today?

Honestly, in this 21st century raising up children who are morally upright is really challenging. Why? Because of the state of our world—where the older generations seem to have failed in the responsibility God has placed in their hands—they themselves are having issues with what morality is about. In essence, one can only give what he or she has. If the adult members are individuals of exceptionally great virtue and character, the younger will benefit from this, but when the reverse is the case; it means there’s a pending apocalypse; so to say. As we know, the young ones are the future leaders of tomorrow. In fact, they are the future of any society, country— and even the world at large.

Mother Theresa one of the great women that ever lived quoted:

“It is a poverty to decide that child must die that you may live as you wish”

What is God’s view about children?

Mark 9:37
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”

Matthew 18:10
“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Psalm 127:3
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

Now, from the above scriptural verses it is evident that children are very important set of individuals in the eyes of our Make, and they are undoubtedly loved by God. As a result, He expects the adult generation to make sure that every child knows this truth, even as they serve as role models to these little ones.

I'm not an old man, but I have come to discover that humans, including children are moved more by what they see you do than what you say. This is the reason why every youth or adult must see it as a collective responsibility (together with parents) to train the children around them in a godly way; inculcating awesome virtues in them through their lifestyle.

Children are what the environment makes them.
They copy everything they see us do.
We need to set good examples for them.

Thank you for your contribution.

Precisely. I feel honoured... @sc-n, many thanks.

Children are indeed our heritage and we must indeed nurture them. Children are very important to God and form an integral part of our family system. So much so that the Holy Scriptures tells us that happy is the man whose quiver is full with them.

Though this may be so, our children are at a disadvantage in many areas of our society. They face a number of challenges each day and it is sad that so many of our precious gems are ill-treated by the very persons thought to be care givers for them.

The Jamaican landscape is no different from the rest of the world. Every year hundreds of children are mowed down either by knife, gun or car and other atrocities that may face them. It would seem that there is an all out attack on the future of not only our families but our nation.

If indeed they are our heritage (inheritance/legacy) then our sure job is to nurture (to take care of) them.

Exactly @izuchukwu1506, thanks for stopping by and your nice comment.
Kind regards.

This is great and helpful. As environment is one of the great factor that determines man's thinking. It very important that even as we grow up we are affected by the right manners.
