THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Ladies and gentlemen of the community.
Grace and peace be to you, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Introduction

The word of God refers to two prophetic stars: "the morning star and the morning star". The morning star announces the coming of the new day (Rev 22:16: astar in Greek) that was fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, who in turn announced his future return to earth. The one in whom the prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfilled has also been called the "morning star" (2 Peter 1:19, phosphoros, in Greek). In the New Testament Jesus promises, "I will come again," and with that promise he holds a set of other promises that will be fulfilled upon his return. That is why, the present study will focus on the revision of that set of promises that announce HIS SECOND COMING.

Jesus declared son of God with power

In (Psalm 16:10) we find: "For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will you allow your saint to see corruption."

It is great what this verse declares, which the apostles clearly recognized as predicting the resurrection of Jesus. So much so that Peter quoted him in his sermon on the day of Pentecost (Ac 2:27) and then the apostle Paul did it in one of his first sermons in Antioquia in Pisidia (Acts 13:35).

The atoning work of Christ is completed and declared at the resurrection (Ro 6; 2Ti 1:10; He 2: 9-18; 1P 2:18); through her Jesus was "declared Son of God with power" (Rom. 1: 4). Upon completing the work he came to perform, he ascended to the right hand of the Father. This leads us to be hopeful and as Christians, we look forward, because the Lord has offered the promise of eternal life to all those who receive and believe in him (Jn 6:40).

While it is true that Sheol represents the Dominion of the dead, it is also true that David prophetically declares in (Psalm 16:10) that his saint (Jesus) will be resurrected among the dead, physically without corruption. This was the extraordinary announcement of Peter on the day of Pentecost (Hc 2: 25-31).
Therefore we believe, that Jesus rose, ascended to heaven and right now is seated at the right hand of the Father. For which reason we also believe that "He will come again".

Will come again

Source

In the Gospel of (John 14: 1-3) Jesus said to his disciples: "1 Do not let your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my father's house there are many dwellings; if it were not so, I would have told you; I am going to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be. "

In this present century, there are no more comforting words for the Lord's church in all of Scripture, than those spoken by the lips of our Lord Jesus Christ about his return. The Lord pronounced these words during an intimate dialogue with his disciples, and resounded in our ears as an echo, as a precious promise made to his church.

In this passage, Jesus speaks of a peace, a place and a promise. Start with a comforting exhortation: Do not be disturbed; have peace. Our peace is based on our belief in God and in Christ. We know that he is trustworthy and that he offers us a peace on which we can build our lives. Second, Jesus spoke of a place. The Lord has promised to prepare us a place to enjoy his eternal companionship. Finally, we have his promise that he will come back for us. As we have received Him in our hearts as personal savior of our souls, He comes to receive us. Therefore, we look forward to the expected day, preparing ourselves for that moment, because: "... whosoever has this hope in him, purifies himself" (1 Jn 3: 3).

This leads us to walk in hope against hope, knowing that the one who promised is faithful to fulfill, and always encourages us to keep that glorious moment of his coming, because just as the disciples saw him ascend to heaven, they also received the promise that thus we will see him descend. Therefore, his coming is more than confirmed.

Good news, confirmed: Jesus will return

In the book of (Acts 1: 10-11), the angels confirm that Jesus will return: "10 And while they were keeping their eyes fixed on heaven, while he was gone, behold, two men stood beside them with white garments, 11 who also said to them: Men of Galilee, why are you looking up to heaven? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you to heaven, will come as you have seen him go to heaven. "

Dear reader, before Jesus left his disciples, he promised them he would return (Jn 14: 1-3). Now, here at the ascension of Jesus, the angels say to the disciples: Do not stay looking at the sky, Jesus will return, but now you go and do what he told you to do!

Often we need to be reminded of these words. We often engage in the precious promise of the Lord's return, and we forget that his promise should also affect us as to how we behave toward the world. Jesus has assigned a task to each one of us, and "Blessed is that servant to whom, when his master comes, he finds him doing so" (Mt 24:46).

When we have clarity, that not only is preparing for the Lord's return, but announcing his wonderful gospel to every creature, we will have a greater opportunity to be occupied in the things of the kingdom. This will allow us, with greater strength, to live with the firm hope of receiving our Lord Jesus Christ as the Apostle Paul announced to the Thessalonica church: A cry, the voice of an archangel and the trumpet of God, announce the coming of the Lord.

Triple announcement of the coming of Christ

Source

In (1Thes 4: 15-18) the apostle Paul makes a triple announcement of the coming of the Lord, in verse 16 he says: "For the Lord Himself with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, will come down from the sky; and the dead in Christ will be resurrected first."

One of the most detailed passages of the Second Coming of Christ, is exactly this, which, the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica.

We are told that there will be a triple announcement of the coming of the Lord: a loud cry or sound, the voice of an archangel and the trumpet of God. In addition to this, a triple promise is offered to believers: a) the dead in Christ will be resurrected; b) those of us who are alive at that moment will be raptured; and c) we will always be with the Lord (vv 16,17).

The hope of his coming must be a source of consolation for those of us who are waiting for his return (verse 18). This because we do not know exactly what will be the day of his coming, nor the time. Only the Father knows.

Only Heavenly Father knows when Christ will return

Source

In (Matthew 25:13) we find: "Watch therefore, for you do not know the day or the hour in which the Son of Man is to come."

While in (Matthew 24:36) the Lord says to his disciples: "But of the day and the hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but only my Father."

Throughout history, some believers have mistakenly tried to determine when the Lord will return, and ignorance of these foolish attempts has often led them to point out, with a presumptuous attitude, the time of Jesus' coming. But, as we have read in the previous verses of the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord Jesus explicitly states that no one but the Father knows the time of his coming.

However, in (Matthew 25:13) Jesus began with the command, "Watch." The challenge that makes us is that we are constantly and hopefully waiting for him. Therefore, our responsibility is twofold: to prepare for his coming, so that when he arrives he will find a wife "without spot and without wrinkle" (Eph 5:27), and let us act until his return in such a way that the kingdom of God preserve and spread over the face of the earth (Lk 19: 11-27). Let us, therefore, be occupied in the business of the Father, let us live in expectation of the return of the Master, let's divest ourselves of all idle speculation and of the superstitious tendency to be fixing dates on the time when He will come again.

Let's just embrace the word that Jesus said: "I certainly am coming soon."

I'm coming soon

Among the last words of the Bible is this promise of the Lord Jesus, "Surely I come quickly" (Rev. 22:20). This blessed hope, which was announced by the angels and declared by the apostles, is reiterated with tenderness by the Lord, when concluding the sacred text that contains his word. </ Div>

Consequently, dear reader, let us also say as John said: "Yes, come, Lord Jesus". Amen.
