What is Lent?

Today marks the beginning of a 40 days lent season which is observed by catholic, protestans communities and a whole lot of Christians out there. So today I have decided to talk about Lent and what it is about. In the olden days the mark of atonement was rednign garments, sitting in ashes and wearing sackcloth. It is for this reason when the Prophet Joel said to tear our hearts and garments and return fully to the Lord.

Lent is not period that we go around with pity faces that tells people that we are indeed in the lent season and that as Christians we are duly observing the rite by fasting rather it is time for fasting, praying and giving alms. During the fasting period as Christ observed, he only prayed and fasted and when the devil tempted him he did not give in, that is what lent is about, it is a time to strengthen our faith in God to be more resilient against the devil. It is a time to ask for forgiveness for sins commited to turn over a new leaf. It is also this time that we must take on the evangelical work which was actually the great mandate Christ handed down to all of us as Christians.

During this lent season pray that God put in you a pure and steadfast heart that would enable you to live the quintessential life of a Christian as he (Christ) wants us to live. Have blessed day.
