Colossians 2: 6-7 (NKJV)

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him; rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

Beloved, the days are gone when believers thought being a member of a church or one christian organization or the other is all they needed. Our opening scripture today points to the way we should live our lives having received Christ, Here, the believer is likened to a tree, a tree of righteousness, which is to be rooted.

Being rooted in this case implies being stable. This means that as a believer, we must recognize that Christ is our root, and we derive all our life, nourishment, and fruitfulness from Him. A deeply rooted life will love more and you would be able to resist the forces that want to pull down. In Jeremiah 12:2, God gives us a promise if we dare to dig our roots deep into Him:

“You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit.”

According to Pam and Bill Farrel:

If you live in the part of the world known as Tornado Alley, you know what happens when a big storm hits. Winds whip through and trees that have shallow roots are tossed about like toothpicks. But trees with deep roots that go far into the ground are anchored in place. These deeply rooted trees continue to grow year after year and survive storm after storm.

In line with the above analogy, God expects us to be deeply rooted. In Jeremiah 17:8, the scripture says the people of God will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. They would not fear when heat comes; their leaves will always be green. They have no worries in a year of drought and will never fail to bear fruit. Jesus had warned us of the danger of having shallow roots in the famous parable of the seed:

Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root (Mark 4:5-6).

Our lives must be with deep spiritual roots. These strong rootednesss will enhance stability for families, churches, and communities at large.

BENEFITS OF BEING ROOTED

In Hebrews 13: 9, Paul talks about nit being carried about with divers and strange doctrines. WHen we are rooted, the wind of strange doctrines won't waiver us, neither will is shake our base. "For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace;"not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. See what Colossians 2: 7 (MSG) says:

7 You're deeply rooted in him. You're well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you've been taught. School's out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.
8 Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that's not the way of Christ.

PRAYER

Oh God, may I be rooted in Thee that the wind would not mess my life - Amen.
