Colossians 1:15-20. Christ the beginning of everything!
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Paul, accompanied by Timothy, writes this letter to the Christians of Colossae, a small city of Asia Minor, currently in the territory of Turkey. This congregation probably founded by Epaphras, a servant of Paul, heard the gospel message in Ephesus and then proclaimed it in Colosse.
Epaphras tells Paul about the problems that this community was having regarding false teachings, being the case that some Jews told them that they did not meet the conditions to be part of the people of God. On the other hand, the nonbelievers surrounding the community believed that the "elemental principles of this world" dominated the lives of humans. Where their circumstances were governed by these powers, be they angels, stars or religious rules that wanted to captivate them.
Faced with these problems, the apostle Paul responds by affirming that Christ is absolutely sufficient for our salvation and that He has the first place in everything and is above all.
God dwells in unapproachable light and no man has been able to see it 1 Timothy 6:16, even though Moses asked to see the face of God, the answer was negative Exodus 33:20. And it is not that God is hiding from man, but that his holiness is so great that anyone who saw it would die. But the eternal God, who has no beginning or end, has made himself known in Christ John 14:9. In Jesus we see the exact and visible image of God, in Christ, God shows us his love, wisdom, justice and kindness; all the splendor of his being.
