The Legacy of John the Baptist Luke 3: 1-17
In the past week we must have noticed the frequent calls to repentance not only to individuals who were threatening the holiness of the Churches but also the Church as a whole. In Luke 3:15-17, John's fierce calls to repentance to different categories of people including King Herod, was his way of preparing the way for the emergence of our Lord who would baptise with fire those who would believe in Him.
It is from this that the Church's proclamation of the gospel of salvation in Christ has always emphasized the need for repentance in order to enter the Kingdom of God. We must return to this legacy of being specific and yet compassionate, if we want to get people to truly come to Christ today. John did not just point out what they had done wrong; he told them what they should do to get right with God.
We need to show that there is a way back to God from the dark paths of sin and the beginning of that way, is at the foot of the cross. There would also be a way forward to be restored into our original image in the likeness of God. As John implies we are to help people step into a new way of life in faith in Christ, no longer in their self-estimation but in total dependence on Him.
Prayer: We thank you dear Father, for those who help us to find the way back into the embrace of your love.

Quite an interesting read. Being a forerunner to Jesus Christ was definitely not an easy task. Also, being known as the baptiser, he helped to reconcile many with God.
This is true, John the Baptist legacy cannot be forgotten, thanks for sharing this with us.
