For God's Glory.

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; (Romans 3:19, NASB)

There are a couple of godly men in history who claimed that even if they were to lose their bibles by accident and had the chance to choose a chapter, they would go for Romans 3. It's believed to be the summary of the gospel. All Bible verses are " inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" but this one, with no intention of exulting it above others, gives a detail description of the gospel.

Here we see Paul explaining the mystery of the gospel, justification by faith and answering some critical questions that were and are imposed on the doctrine of grace by legalistic religious men and women. But I want us to concentrate our attention on verse 19 which is quoted above. This verse talks about the gracious gospel. It gives another option for justification by the law. That is salvation by grace through faith alone without the law.

Here Paul is not denying the fact that there are people who depend on the law for justification. What he's doing is that he's explaining to these people another form of Salvation which is outside of themselves and about God; A salvation that is possible and has a hundred percent assurance; A salvation that makes God the center. It's from God, by God and unto God. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Also, we can see from the text that Paul is bringing his audience's attention to the goal of salvation, for God's Glory.

It's been the main drive behind salvation. Remember God telling the people of Israel that the reason why he would save them wasn't that of themselves. But rather he had a greater concern for his name that was blasphemed amongst the nation. (Ezekiel 36) . We can therefore say that the ultimate goal of salvation is for the glorification of God's Name. From life's the first cry to the time one becomes justified, he or she engages in deeds that defame the glorious name of God. Man is naturally a disgrace to God because of the corruption of the heart received by virtue of being a descendant of Adam.

The man even continues to sin after he has been saved from sins' penalty. By this we can conclude that the whole life of man is not glorifying to God's name. But by grace, He washes us with His blood till we see our Bridegroom appear in glory. This makes a man totally dependent on the grace of God. And here Paul says that the law speaks to those under it. And one of its purposes is to shut prideful men of their boasting. To keep a man from exulting himself in self-righteousness. The law didn't come to make anyone right with God. It came to make sin increase so that we come to the reality of our depravity and cast our cares on Jesus.(Romans 5:20)

That's to say the law is a schoolmaster that leads man to Christ through grace. The law works for grace to be applied. The law does the conviction. It tells the man that you cant live perfectly according to the law of God. It tells the man that even his righteous deeds are like a filthy rag before God. (Isaiah 64). It strips man off anything called self, makes him naked and causes him to seek for the righteous robe of heaven.

So we preach the law to opsonize him for the washing of the blood. The law makes man as filthy as the heart is. And only the blood of Christ can wash that dirt. And by so doing, "every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;". So that the glory will not go to the strength of a man but unto God who alone saves.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9, NASB)
