STEEMCHURCH: THE COMPLETE GOSPEL

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Hi parishioners, how are you all doing? Today we are going to look at something interesting about the gospel and that we may know that the gospel proclamation is complete only when it presents Jesus Christ as the solution to sin and all human problem. The gospel is the good news of the demonstration of God's love to mankind who is lost in sin, with its eternal consequences. It is a glad message of God's favour (grace) and forgiveness of sin (salvation) for those who believe (i.e. put their confidence and trust) in Christ Jesus. However, it is a message of damnation for those who refuse to believe in Jesus Christ. In its declaration, propagation and practice, the gospel of Christ remains 'the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes' (Romans 1:16). The content of the gospel is simple but profound, conveying God's love and life to the believer. The complete gospel touches all the dimensions of man's existence (spirit, soul and body) and all the domains of his activities spiritual, physical, social, economic, etc.

THE CONTENT OF THE COMPLETE GOSPEL

The message of the gospel centred on man's reconciliation to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The reconciliation has both temporal and eternal consequences which include responsibilities, privileges and benefits. Let's see some of them.

  • The core of the gospel message is salvation by grace (God's special favour) through faith, (and not by works) for those who receive (believe in) Jesus Christ. However, it is damnation to those who reject Jesus Christ (John 3:16-18; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:16).

  • The gospel should present the totality of Christ's sacrifice which has the power to save from sin (Luke 24:47; 1 Corinthians 15:2-4). The gospel message of God's love to man is centred on the virgin birth of Jesus Christ' His teachings, death, resurrection, ascension and His promised return.

  • Jesus Christ's vicarious suffering on the cross and His atoning death as a substitution for sinners. His is a once-for- all sacrifice (atonement) that is sufficient and satisfactory for the redemption of mankind (Hebrews 10:10).

  • Repentance ånd forgiveness of sin, water baptism and discipleship are essential compqnents of the complete gospel (Luke 24:47; Matthew 28:19' 20).

  • The complete gospel emphasizes new life in Christ (Romans 6: 21, 22). A believer in the gospel Of Christ receives a new life. He is born-again, having received God's kind of life (zoe). The believer becomes a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • It emphasizes freedom from Satanic influence (Acts 26:18). The gospel of Christ dekvers from bondage to the powers of darkness and other demonic influences, so that the believer can enjoy the truth that sets free.

  • It focuses on giving hope and liberty to the oppressed (Luke and integrate them into the kingdom Of God where there is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).

  • It declares the believer's incorporation into the Body of Christ; and gifted by the Holy Spirit he, as a child of God, is enabled to contribute his quotas to the building up of that Body (1 Corinthian 12:13, 14; 27-30).

  • The complete Gospel emphasizes deliverance from guilt and condemnation because, the penalty for his sin is paid and the power of sin broken (Romans 8:1,2; Ephesians 1:7).

  • The complete gospel promotes social responsibility. It requires the. believer to render social services for the less privileged or the deprived (James 1:27; 1John 3:17).

COMMISSIONED TO PREACH THE GOSPEL

Believers in the gospel of Christ have the responsibility to preach the good news of God's love and redemption. The believer is empowered and mandated to propagate the gospel and therefore:

  • The command to preach is a definite directive from the Lord (Matthew 28:19, 20).

  • The preaching of the gospel should transcend all barriers of age, gender, social and economic status, language and race (Acts 1:8). The command is to go to all nations. We are to be witnesses of the saving grace of Christ everywhere and to all people.

  • The strategies and tools of our outreaches may differ (e.g. mass media, literature, creative arts, open air campaigns), but the focus must be uniform. The focus is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ (Roman 10:811; 1 Corinthian 1:23).

  • The preaching of the gospel is to bring souls of different persuasions into the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthian 1:24, 25).

  • The gospel must be proclaimed in the power ofthe Holy Spirit (1 Corinthian 2:4). Speak the truth in love and leave the results to God, because only the Lord can convert.

  • The gospel should reconcile the sinner to God and not merely makl religious zealots out of them (2 Corinthians 5:18-21).

  • The church is God's prophet (mouth piece) and royal priesthood, and mere charity organlsatlon. Therefore, praying all kinds of prayer Is crltlcalw effective propagation of the gospel (Ephesians 6:18,19).

WHEN THE GOSPEL CONTENT EMPHASISED...

When we consistently remind people of the core attributes of complete gospel:

  • The possibility of backsliding will be reduced, thereby helping believersto build confidence and be fully persuaded of the love of God in Christ Jesu (Romans 8:31-39).

  • It will help unbelievers to understand the gospel and can therefore be more easily converted (Acts 2:47; 5:14)

  • It will reassure believers who doubt their salvation(Ephesians This will enable them to bear their cross daily with joy.

  • True and fruitful fellowship among the brethren will be encouraged. The warmth and glow of sharing, caring and bearing with one another.will be constantly maintained to promote spiritual maturity.

  • The Church will be kept ready for rapture the glorious event that will unite the saints of all ages (Matthew 25: 13; IThessalonians4:12-18).

CONCLUSION:

The Complete Gospel is a message of God's special love for mankind. It pronounces forgiveness of sin and glorification for those who believe the message and repent of their sin. It also declares that the unbelieving is already condemned and awaiting damnation.

I strongly support you on this. The gospel is all about Jesus and what he has done for the sake of humanity.

The phrase "full gospel" is a common one these days. In almost all cities and towns one can find a church or a mission that pretends to teach the full gospel. No doubt that many who hear or see this often wonder what the phrase "full gospel" means.

Most of these groups claim that they preach a religion that can be felt, promoting the baptism of the Holy Spirit and divine healing. This may not be what each group wants to say, but it is what most people like most. For them, this is the gospel of Jesus Christ. We agree with them in part; for if some teach less than this, they can not pretend to preach the full gospel, since these are basic and important elements of the doctrine of the New Testament. However, they will also fall short if we define the word "complete" as something that means "thorough" and "total".

Christ entrusted to His disciples the great commission. This mandate was to go to the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature, teaching them to keep all the things that He had commanded them. Christ left various commandments through the writings of the New Testament authors, which He expects all believers to practice. His will is that all men of all the nations of the world can hear and believe. The purpose of the Great Commission is for the Church to bring the gospel of Christ to all the nations of this world and to teach those who have believed in the Lord through the testimony of the Church; they will know and practice the full gospel of Jesus Christ. The "complete gospel" encloses what Jesus said: "all the things that I have commanded you".
