"“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed(1 Samuel 2:30)."

Eli was a priest due to the fact that he belonged to the house of Aaron, the first priest of God had appointed. When 1 Sam. 2:27 speaks of "thy father", it means Aaron, the brother of Moses. It was a custom to call any male ancestor "father" even if the man lived hundreds of years before.
We do not know the name of the man who came to warn Eli but he was prophet of God. The prophet warned Eli about the impending death of his lineage due to the atrocious actions of his two sons.He said that instead of being well fed leaders, Eli's descendants would be hungry and would beg for chance to earn a little money and have some food.

He also said Eli's sons would die the same day, as a sign of what would happen to the rest of his family. Eli could not blame anyone but himself for his sad situation. His sons "knew not the Lord"(1 Sam. 2:12) and yet he allowed them to serve as priests. They were covetous, using the office of priest for their own gain. They committed adultery with the women who worked at the tabernacle. Eli scolded them for this and said they were sinning against the Lord, but they did not heed to his warning because he had not taught them how to obey. They went right on sinning and Eli did not stop them.

One of the great truths of the Bible is that we reap what we sow. If children are taught to honour their parents, they will find it easy to honour God.To honour a person is to be respectful and obedient. The first quotation says that God will honour him with reverence and obedience, but He will despise those who despise Him.Eli was covetous like Judas. When Judas saw Mary pour expensive perfume on Jesus, he said it was a waste, because he wished to sell the perfume and put the money in his pocket (John 12:3-6).Eli thought it was a waste to destroy all the good meat the people sacrificed to the God, and he coveted it for himself.

Just like Eli, no one can sin without paying the price, no matter how high his position may be or how long he may have served God.
"The wages of sin is death". There are some people like Eli's sons who thinks they can do anything and get away with it since they are Christians. But if a Christian goes back into sin he is no longer a Christians.
