No Longer I, But Christ

Taylor Hudson was a missionary in China during mid-1800s. At one point in his life, he was overwhelmed with the financial concerns, the responsibilities regarding the missions, and the huge piles of mails awaiting him. Furthermore, all the letters he sent to family and friends were filled with defeats and discouragement.

Noticing his needs, a missionary friend sent a mail back to Hudson, asking these questions, “Hudson, when you think about Jesus, does He have a furrowed brow? Is Jesus worried and anxious because He does not know what is going to happen next or if there would be adequate money?”
He then added, “When your life becomes Jesus’ life, there is certainly no need to worry or be anxious, because it will no longer be you who endures the burdens rather Jesus, and He will certainly not be swamped by any problem or trouble.”

Hudson Taylor got changed in that moment by God's aid. His situation tho was the same, and later on aggravated, the difference this time round was his response. Whereas earlier he fretted and wrestled, he now rested in the Lord and trusted Him with a calm, quiet, and tranquilent spirit. Many who knew him were able to discern the dramatic change that took place.

Beloved, we often think that being crucified with Jesus Christ is all about saying no to sin, temptations, and worldly pleasures. However, living in the power of Christ's resurrected life is also inclusive. Jesus Christ lives in us, empowers us to sin no more and also live a righteous life. Christ additionally bears our burdens and encourages us to put our trust in Him. Just as we are saved by faith, so we also live by faith- putting our trusts in the Lord day by day with all our needs and concerns.
