The Pastorate a special call

"The Lord does not see what man sees: man sees appearances, but the Lord looks to the heart" (I Samuel 16.7).

What the text is telling me is that: the one who indicates, chooses and anoints is the Holy Spirit of God. In the biblical verse how many times the Lord intervened, through the (Greek) tire, that is, breath of the Holy Spirit in the life of the prophet Samuel to separate the future King of Israel.

But what was David doing when Samuel went to the house of Jesse? He was taking care of his father's sheep. The Lord Jesus asked Simon Peter: "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said: "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said: "Take care of my lambs." Jesus said: "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Jesus said: "shepherd my sheep" (John 21.15b to 17b). This interview seems to me to be the first council in the history of Christianity. What proof! Phew!

Are we willing to take care of the Lord's sheep? I do not have the presumption that with this modest comment affirm categorically that who has or does not have a special call to the holy ministry of the word, but brings only a reflection on this issue that is still extremely relevant to our Baptist churches. It is said in passing that some are without titular pastors, therefore, with leaders on an interim basis, and some without any leadership, but this is another matter.

Let's see the record of the prophet who wrote the most about Jesus: The Spirit of the sovereign, the Lord, is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He sent me to take care of those who are brokenhearted, announce freedom to the captives and release the prisoners from darkness. "(Isaiah 61.1) It is the Holy Spirit who separates, trains and sends us, and above all, confirms that it is God who anoints us.

In II Corinthians 1.21, Paul in the new testament on special call gives the name of vocation and in Ephesians 4.11. For the society of the 21st century, being a Pastor became pejorative, that is, depreciated, but I am left with what the Apostle Paul tells Timothy his son in the faith: "If someone wishes to be a bishop, he desires a noble function" .

Sort:

The flock of the Lord must be treated with the utmost care, responsibility and love. Therefore, the pastor will often have to renounce his own interests and plans in favor of building the congregation that God allowed him to pasture.
