1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

1Co 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

One day I was reading these verses and I asked the Lord, “How do I build on the foundation of gold?”. I figure the gold must be the best, so I figure shooting for the best is the way to go. Immediately I heard the Spirit of God speak to me. He said, “Anything that you do that comes from intimacy with me, you will build on gold.”.

Everything we do in this life will be tested by 🔥 Fire.

Imagine going through an entire lifetime of giving to the poor, taking from your own hard earned money to help someone in need. Imagine a lifetime of generosity. Everyone on earth looks at you as a good person, generous and selfless. But the day comes when everyone one of us will stand before the Righteous Judge. After a lifetime of “Good Works”, He tries our works and finds they were built on the wrong foundation and everything burns up. You get no Heavenly reward, no crown of gold, no well done thou good and faithful servant.

JUST TO BE CLEAR, WE ARE NOT SAVED BY OUR GOOD WORKS. WE ARE SAVED AND MADE RIGHTEOUS BY FAITH ALONE. SALVATION IS A FREE GIFT. BUT AFTER WE ARE BORN AGAIN, OUR CHANGE OF HEART WILL PRODUCE FRUIT. THERE WILL BE PROOF IN THE WAY WE LIFE.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We will all be judged.

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Motives

The things that move God is our faith and especially our faith motivated by love. Love for Him and love for our fellow man.

1 Cor 13:13 Even if I give away everything that I have and sacrifice myself, but have no love, I gain nothing.

Jesus said, if we do our good deeds just to be seen by man, we already have our reward. We wanted people to see us, people saw us, we got what we wanted.

Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
The Lord's Prayer
Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Our Motives

• To please the Father and to honor the Name of Jesus
• Obedience because we are told it is right to be open handed to the poor.
• Out of gratitude for our salvation.
• Motivated by our love for God.
• Motivated by our compassion for others

As we fall in love with Jesus, the good works we do with be Works that last. Works tried in the fire and found to be built on the right foundations of gold, silver and precious stone. One day we can stand before the Righteous Judge and hear from Him, “WELL DONE”.
