Prayer Part 11 Protect Yourself and Your Family

Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Finally!

This book of the Bible.as the Apostle Paul addresses the Ephesians is called an epistle or a letter. Paul is writing a letter to the church in Ephesus. The Chapter and verse numbers were added to help us find verses and to navigate the Bible. So Paul is writing one letter and when he gets to the end off the letter he says, “FINALLY BRETHREN”. This is where he brings together some culminating thoughts. It is like, Finally, or I wrote all of the other 5 chapters to bring this point. Finally.be strong in the Lord and the power of His might, because there is an adversary.

Finally! This is why I wrote this letter so that you will be able to withstand the wiles or craftiness of the devil.

Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

I have seen some popular preachers preach sermons and wrote books about putting on the whole armor. They have the listener or reader stand in front of a mirror and imagine themselves putting on the Helmet of salvation and the breastplate of Righteousness. For me this is silly!

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit is telling us practical preparation to ensure safety from the attacks of a very crafty enemy. He begins writing.

PRACTICAL PREPARATION BY KNOWING WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT US.

In Christ we are His Children

Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

I am going to hit some highlights, but I suggest you read the entire book of Ephesians and meditate on God’s Word.

We are not alone in this battle, we have the Holy Spirit

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

He has given us authority and He expects us to win

Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

He saved us by His Grace as a free gift We are His Workmanship created for Good Works

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We have access to God through prayer

Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

All of these prepare our minds and hearts to give us confidence and faith during the battle. These are the helmet of salvation.

I hope you can see the pattern and the reason behind the entire letter to the Ephesians. Finally, is Paul saying, “I wrote this entire letter to show you how to be equipped with the Full Armor of God.

it is God’s armor we put on.

Anything that is good for your spiritual health. Anything that is good for the Kingdom of God. Any relationship that has kingdom value. Will be attacked!

This is how we keep our families and keep the attacks from being successful. We are meant to win these battles and temptations with the Full Armor of God.

  • “Husbands love your wives
    Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

  • Wives submit yourselves unto your own husband
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

  • Children obey your parents
Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

  • Fathers do not provoke your children to wrath
Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

A home that practices this will not be defeated by the enemy.

There is so much more I could put here, but this post would get super long. We put on the full armor of God by reading and meditating on the scriptures and putting God’s Word into practice.

We will continue this series on the 7 tyoes of prayer.
