1 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

1. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

3. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

4. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

5. Thou shalt not kill. (Murder)

6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

7. Thou shalt not steal.

8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (thou shalt not lie)

9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Jesus pointed out that the commandments we motivated and based on LOVE

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The first two commands are centered on our love for God. The third to keep the Sabbath is focused on us and last seven are focused on our love and the way we treat other people. But all of the commandments are to our benefit.

The first two commmandments
LOVE GOD
NO IDOLS (Not combining idolatry with our worship)

God does not need our worship or love. God is complete on His Own and eternally existed without us. God knows we need to worship Him. When our focus is Him, we become more like the One we Worship. In the same vain, if we worship idols ie combine our worship with idols, our focus is not Him the Giver of All Life, but something that has no life. Can’t clean itself, of no value and of a negative value in our life. God abhors idolatry and always will. His love commands we stay away from idols, whether physical or just ones set up in our heart. Money, greed, lust. All idols that will harm us

Command 3 Keeping rhe Sabbath

Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

These are the Words of Jesus. The Sabbath and the rest involved was commanded for our. Benefit. Based on God’s Love.

Commands 4-10 are based on our dealing with others.

If we love our parents we will honor them and we will will be rewarded with the connected promise.

If we bear false witness against someone, this harms what people think about them. It is a type of murder of character.

Of we love someone we won’t want his wife, manservant. Obviously if we murder someone, that person is someone’s son, Father, brother. This action harms us and the person we killed and everyone that loves and depends on that person.

I look around today and see so many single mom’s. Those shalt not commit adultery also has the indication of fornication. Sex outside of marriage. So many children without a loving father. God’s Love is displayed in His Commands.

Jesus put it this way.

Mat 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
