STEEMCHURCH: Our inheritance in Christ as children of God

in #steemchurch6 years ago

There are privileges that believers have, of which not everyone is aware and we all somehow fail at some point, in terms of using our legitimate rights as children of God. Just think for a moment, in the care and tenderness that a son of his Father expects and the love that the Father feels towards his son. What a wonderful relationship and how many privileges it grants!

The word of God affirms in John 1:12, the following: "But to all who received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave them the right to become children of God" and later he asserts that we were (again) born God's will.

Now, in order to align ourselves in a manner consistent with this teaching we must fulfill certain duties, but it is also true that we have rights, many of which we never use or very little. To illustrate a bit this topic we are going to do it taking as an example the passage in the Bible, from the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15: 11-32. This is a very edifying parable that our Lord Jesus related, which encompasses many doctrinal aspects where the word "inheritance" in one of the key elements in this instruction.

The depth and edges of this parable are extensive and well known, but focusing on the theme of the inheritance, we have that: A son (the youngest) asks for the property that would correspond to him from his Father, while this one is still "Alive" and his Father gives "both sons" their inheritance at that time (Lc15: 12), perhaps with a lot of pain for what this extemporaneous request represented, where the youngest son showed his attachment to the privileges of his inheritance and to his insufficient love. After the time when the youngest son returns to his father (tired of the world and unsuccessful), he is received with a party and with all the rights, which is a cause of jealousy for his older brother, so much that he rebukes his father and this he makes a categorical affirmation and a grandiose connotation "All my things are yours". Looking for the meaning of this statement in the set, we understand that the eldest son had also received his share, being able to enjoy it at any time, but he was not aware of this ... He was still waiting for the right moment -which he already had- and yet he was obedient and always with his father, he did not enjoy his natural privileges. This is also a great teaching of our Lord, for all of us believers who have an inheritance in Christ according to the design of his will, for the things acquired through him.

Know our rights with the right attitude.

Much can be said about the youngest son, but not about his lack of desire; He manifested what he wanted and took what belonged to him. Of course, his attitude was not the best and he hurt his father greatly.

We can see in another example, when Jesus also teaches us about the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15: 21-28, who asks her for the healing of her daughter and even though she is not part of God's chosen people, she says "Woman Your faith is great! Make yourself as you wish "and your daughter was healed, perhaps not by prior right but because I present her desire with the right attitude.

To have the right attitude, we have to know our rights in Christ Jesus and his promises, for which it is necessary that we scrutinize his word. Some scholars of the subject say that in the Bible more than 3,000 diverse promises are made for us believers. Now, we lose our benefits greatly because we do not know the word of God! How are we going to want something that God has already established and promised for our lives, if not we know them. It is essential that we frequently study his word and please God by asking him to fulfill his purposes and promises in our lives. We are his children and we must remain faithful to our heavenly Father, as he does in a sense, the eldest son in the parable of the prodigal son.

OUR GREATEST INHERITANCE

God has also reserved for us an inheritance that transcends the barriers of this world, which transcends this life and prepares a place for us in his home within his kingdom. That guarantees eternal life, as Jesus himself says in John 6:47: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me has eternal life."

He who has believed in Jesus as his Lord, has been blessed with the greatest of gifts as unmerited favor, has been justified, redeemed, set apart from sin and his wages: death. He has been truly liberated and saved.

COHEREDEROS IN CHRIST

God says in Ephesians 3: 6 "that the Gentiles are co-heirs and members of the same body, and coparticipants of the promise of Jesus Christ through the gospel" What do you mean by co-heirs? According to the law, the "coheirs" form the hereditary community, where each heir owns an aliquot part of the inheritance. The word of God also affirms in Romans 8:17 "And if children, also heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ ..."
God has many attributes and perhaps the most common theological division of them are: Divine Attributes and Moral Attributes; where the biggest difference is that in the first ones we do not find any analogy in man and in the second ones if there are analogous characteristics (referentially). Now God Almighty as one of his divine attributes and reserved only to Him and man is not at all, but we are his children and co-heirs "in Christ" so that through him we can enjoy the power of God in our lives -very simple-; We do not enjoy the fullness of our inheritance from God, through Jesus Christ, because we do not exercise our rights as legitimate heirs.

The word of God also teaches us in that same verse, that we must stand firm with Jesus and suffer together with Him. It is about not imitating the actions of the youngest son in the parable, who asked for his inheritance, received his benefits and refusing his duties as a son, he departed far from the presence of his Father, No. This can only dishearten the heart of God who wants to give us everything he has for us, in this life and even something greater for when we are before his presence in heaven. But do not imitate the conformist example of the eldest son in this parable. We are not satisfied that Christ has given us eternal life - which is the best gift and right that we can obtain in this life - there are many other things that He wants to give us. Let us be good Christians, practicing the greatest attachment to our heavenly father, loving him, worshiping him and recognizing that we are partakers of his grace, since we were born in Jesus our Lord, knowing that our inheritance is given by fidelity in Christ Jesus.
