"The many waters can not quench love." How true is this with respect to God's love! Nothing could turn it off and there will never be anything that can do it. God made known his love through the prophets, but often these were rejected and persecuted. Then he spoke to us through his beloved Son, whom he sent to this world. But he was not heard either! On the contrary, he was hated, condemned and crucified. However, God's love did not go out.
On the cross, Christ endured from God the punishment we deserved because of our sins. God did not take revenge because we rejected his Son, but he proposed him as Savior to all men. Jesus, crucified, prayed: "Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). Love moved him and sustained him. I wanted to honor the holiness of God and give sinners the forgiveness of their sins.
The love of God is unconditional. What does that mean? You could say that it is not subject to any restriction, that it is constant, that it has no limits. Unconditional love is sometimes defined as that which is freely given to the beloved person, whatever happens.
Each one of us has sinned, and sin separates us from God. There is nothing we can do for ourselves to remedy that separation. However, God loves us. His love does not depend on us, since we can not do anything to deserve it. He loves us despite our sinful nature. Love those who do not love him. He loves us all no matter what happens. That does not mean that he loves everything we do, but that he loves us. In fact, he loves humanity so much that he arranged a way for that separation caused by our sins and evil deeds to be eliminated through the atoning death of His Son, Jesus. Even though we are sinners, God, motivated by His love for us, made it possible for us to reconcile with Him.
"If man gave all the goods of his house for this love, they would certainly despise him." Indeed, it is offensive to want to buy love, and how much more the love of God! It can not be bought at any price! That love expands freely from the heart of our Lord over all humanity. All men on earth, rich or poor, are in a condition of equality: they are incapable of giving something in exchange for divine love; however, you can receive it free of charge and say: Lord, come to my life! ... Thank you, Lord! He is waiting for this response to his love.
