It is, then, faith the certainty of what is expected, the conviction of what is not seen.
Hebrews 11: 1
In the Bible, the term "faith" does not always have the same meaning.
Faith is to believe. It is trusting fully in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only "mediator between God and men" (1 Timothy 2: 5). "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). "By grace you have been saved through faith" (Ephesians 2: 8).
Faith is not just a starting point, it is the reason for our prayers. This is why the disciples asked the Lord: "Increase our faith" (Luke 17: 5). Through it the believer entrusts himself to God, recognizing his power and his fidelity to keep his promises. "Ask with faith, doubting nothing" (James 1: 6).
Faith is also the motive and strength in the life of the believer. The apostle Paul declared: "By faith we walk, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5: 7). It is, then, an inner energy that allows us to move forward. Paul wanted to meet with the Christians of Rome to be encouraged together, "by the faith that is common to us" (Romans 1:12). Chapter 11 of the Epistle to the Hebrews gives us clear testimonies of men and women who experienced that biblical text: "The just shall live by faith" (Hebrews 10:38).
Finally, faith embraces all Christian truth. It is what we must firmly believe. We are called to contend "ardently for the faith that has once been given to the saints" (Jude 3). At the end of his life, Paul could say: "I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4: 7).
Believing is not easy, having faith when everything seems adverse is brave, God loves people who believe him without condition.

Faith is not only believing that what God has said is true, but it is relying on God to bring to pass that which he has said instead of taking it upon ourselves to bring it to pass. An example of this can be seen in Jesus' encounter with the centurion in Matthew 8:5-10. Contrast that with Abraham trying to bring the promise of a son to pass by listening to his wife.
